I headed off after work Sutter to Fillmore to Clay to Spruce to Washington.  This is the view looking north from Spruce and Washington-   perfection:

The enormous yacht that I saw when I was in Sausalito on Sunday seems to still be here:

Some of the gorgeous homes on Spruce Street:

I continued on Washington to Arguello to Lake to 23rd to Cabrillo to La Playa to Fulton to the Great Highway.  The beach looked incredible in the fading light.  As usual:

    View looking north:

    People playing on the beach:

    Me on the Great Highway:

I continued on the Great Highway to Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.  I was beat.  The dogs got an incredibly short walk.  They didn't seem to notice.

It was cold this morning!  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  I followed it to Stow Lake.  Which looked gorgeous this morning:

I got on JFK and took it to the Panhandle to Baker to McAllister to Laguna to Eddy.  This is the Cadillac Hotel at Eddy and Leavenworth.  It has an unusual frieze on it that looks to me to be inspired by Native American textile design.  The Cadillac has the distinction of being the first residential hotel (SRO) in San Francisco and it has a fascinating history that you can read more about here.

I continued on Eddy to Cyril Magnin to Market.  This is the 1904 Flood building which survived the 1906 earthquake and that you can read more about here:

I took Market to Sansome and into work.

  • Monday, October 13

I headed off after work Sutter to Fillmore to Clay.   Somebody on Clay Street has amazing Halloween decorations up:

This is the house across the street from it.  It's an interesting Victorian cottage with nice detail:

I continued on Clay to Arguello to Lake to 23rd to Cabrillo to 36th and into Golden Gate Park.  Spreckels Lake looked especially pretty in the late afternoon sun:

I got on JFK and took it to Bernice Rodgers to MLK to the Great Highway.  The Great Highway was crawling with surfers, many looking surferlicious.  Here's the sun setting over the ocean:

    This is the view south:

And me with the Marin Headlands behind me:

I took Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.

  • Monday, October 13

I almost slept in this morning but I managed to drag myself out of the house.  I headed of Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  I followed it to Bowling Green to JFK to 8th to Lake and into Mountain Lake Park which looked pretty in the morning light:

I continued on Lake and went into the Presidio at 15th Ave, past the spooky hospital and up to Washington.  I got a nice shot of the Marin Headlands from Immigrant Point:

I headed over to Lincoln and then down to Crissy Field where you could see the smoke coming off of the spectacular fire on Angel Island:

    Golden Gate Bridge:

I took MArina Blvd over to Fort Mason and got another shot of the fire on Angel Island:

I took Van Ness to Beach to the Embarcadero to Washington to Battery to Sacramento to Sansome and into work.

  • Sunday, October 12

I managed to get out of the house for a long ride in Marin for the first time in quite a while.  I headed over the Golden Gate Bridge and the first thing I noticed was this enormous yacht in Sausalito.  I've never seen anything like it before.  Cool:

    Angel Island from Sausalito:

Sausalito with Belvedere Island in the background:

I headed over Camino Also and into San Rafael and then over to China Camp State Park.  Which always looks beautiful and today was no exception:

Then I continued up to the San Rafael Civic Center which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and is all shades of fabulous.  Me likey:

    Check out the detail:

I continued up to the top of Lucas Valley.  This is the view from the top:

And then I headed down into Nicasio Valley.  The reservoir is getting pretty low.  Note to God.  Send rain, please.

I headed down into Samuel P Taylor park and then into Fairfax and then home. Fleet Week had resulted in an enormous amount of traffic in Sausalito and the Presidio so I had to go very slowly but I managed.  It was a really fun day.  I headed home for dinner and then I took the dogs for a walk and then it was time for bed.  Fun day.

Sweet little Ashley Junior is one year old today.  Happy birthday!

I couldn't go on Different Spokes' monthly jersey ride because I had a mid term at City College for my XML class and, as I had totally spaced the midterm for my other class and gotten a 0, I thought it best to take it.  The ride left at 9 and I hung out with them for a little bit and then rode with them into Golden Gate Park and then peeled off from the group and headed south.  I came out of the park at 9th and took it up on Forest Hill and then stopped to take pictures at 14th and Quintara.  It was pretty cool and incredibly clear:

I cut through Saint Francis Wood to Ocean and then went down to City College for my test.  Which was pretty hard but I think I did OK.  After I took Geneva to Bayshore and then headed down to the Airport to take pics.  The tide was out and the wetlands looked especially pretty:

For a recent entrant, there's a lot of Southwest Airlines comings and goings:

    Air Canada's awful mint livery:

    US Air and Delta:

It was Fleet Week and the Blue Angels were in town. Here are some of them landing opposite a United 757:

I continued south the Coyote Point Park.  Which is pretty and highly recommended.  I got this great slow motion show of a Cathay Pacific 747 coming in for a landing:

The view north to San Francisco from Coyote Point:

The kind of deserted marina at Coyote Point:

I started heading back north.  Here I am reflected in the window of one of the office buildings on South Airport Blvd:

I got on Broadway and headed into Burlingame.  Which is very pretty with a cute downtown area.  This restaurant was decked out for Halloween:

I took Broadway to Vancouver to Hillside.  Towards the top of Hillside I got a view north towards the airport:

    Japan Airlines 777-300

I took Hillside to Skyline and headed back into San Francisco.  I stopped at Harding Park for some pics of Lake Merced:

I cut through Saint Francis Wood again and then took Portola to Corbett to Ord and home.  Mr. Poe had done all of the laundry, gone grocery shopping, taken Rufus to class, and cooked me dinner.  What a guy.

  • Friday, October 10

After work I headed off 2nd to Howard to 11th into Bryant to Precita to Mission to 29th to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey to Ridgewood to Flood to Hazelwood to Greenwood to Plymouth to Wildwood to Faxon to De Montefort to Ashton to Head to Holloway to Font to Lake Merced to Skyline to the Great Highway.  I came up the coast and got some shots of the beach just before the sun was setting.  So pretty:

I came up to the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  I followed it to the Music Concourse and took some pics of the California Academy of Sciences in the dimming light:

I also got a couple of the De Young.  I think you get more of a sense of the twisting motion of the tower in the afternoon with the sun behind the building than in the morning.  It also seems less Bedrock-ian:

I took JFK to the Panhandle to Stanyon to Page to Scott to Duboce to Castro to 17th to Ord and home for dinner.

    Bike Mileage:
    Today                                         43.5

  • Friday, October 10

It was cold again this morning but I guess fall is here so I'd better get used to it.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came down the Great Highway.  This is the view looking south at Sunride from just north of Lake Merced:

This is the sun rising behind Lake Merced.  Pretty:

I continued on the Great Highway to Skyline to Lake Merced to Winston to Cerritos to Ocean to Phelan.  This is the view looking north from Phelan at City College.  You can see the big antenna on Twin Peaks and the cross on Mount Davidson:

Me in front of City College:

I continued on Phelan to Judson to Foerster to Monterey to Diamond to Wilder to Arlinton.  This house is all ready for Halloween.

Gun totin' Sarah Palin sitting on John McCain's grave with a pig scampering about.  Loves it:

    Vampire Bush looking on:

I continued on Arlington to Randall to San Jose to Duncan to Valencia.  This is a renovated firehouse on Valencia in the 20's.  Nicely detailed and very pretty:

I continued on Valencia to 14th to Mission.  I took a bunch of pics comind downtown on Mission.  This is a crappy hotel.  Pretty building, but skid row inside.  This is what Mission used to be:

This is what Mission is turning into.  High rise after high rise.  I think it's great:

The view up towards Civic Center:

    The fabulous courthouse:

I dislike the Marriott hotel very much.  I'm hoping all the construction around it will conceal it. Because it's ugly.

The view towards the Bay from Mission and 2nd:

I took 2nd to Market to Sansome and into work.

  • Thursday, October 9

I realized early in the morning that I had missed the due date for the midterm for one of my online classes by a week. D'oh!  I'm still kind of hoping she'll take mercy on me and let me take it but I'm pretty sure I'm getting a 0.  Note to self:  pay more attention.

This is a couple of San Francisco's collection of vintage streetcars that we use for the F train up and down Market.  Pretty:

After work I headed off Sutter to Fillmore.  This is the Shu Uemura store.  Such a pretty building, although it looks like it needs to be painted:

I continued on Fillmore to Sacramento to Arguello.  This is the Lake Street gate of the gorgeous Synagogue on Arguello:

    .

This is St. John's, a Presbyterian church across the street from it:

I took Arguello to Cabrillo to Funston and into Golden Gate Park at the Rose Garden.  It's still in bloom and it looked beautiful:

My favorite color of rose: orange:

I got on JFK and took that to Bernice Rodgers to MLK to the Great Highway.  I headed down the coast to Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.

It was cold this morning!  But I managed to crawl out of bed and head off 17th to Eureka to 18th to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey into Santa Clara into Vicente and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  I followed it to the music concourse and stopped to take some pics of the swanky new California Academy of Sciences.  I love everything about this building:

I also love the De Young across the Music Concourse.  It always looks a little Bedrock to me in the mornings:

    Me:

I got on JFK to 8th to Arguello and into the Presidio.  I came out the Lombard Gate and then took Greenwich to Van Ness to North Point to the Embarcadero to Battery to Sacramento to Sansome and into work.
