Month: October 2008

  • Tuesday, October 21

I was woken up this morning at 4:30 to the sounds of Ashley and Mimi having a heated argument about who got to sleep where in the bed.  Everybody got yelled at and Ashley got booted out of the bed.  I got up and he had to come into the study with me.  This was followed by another argument over a piece of painters tape he'd found.  That dog is getting increasingly surly.  He certainly seems to lack Ashley Senior's velvet touch.  The upside of all of this was that I managed to get out the house a few minutes early.  I headed off 17th to Eureka to 18th to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey to Ridgewood to Flood to Hazelwood to Greenwood to Plymouth to Wildwood to Faxon to De Montefort to Ashton to Head to Holloway to Font to Lake Merced to Skyline the Great Highway.  I came up the coast and went into Golden Gate Park at JFK.  I followed that to the Panhandle to Stanyon to Page to Market to Sansome where there was finally enough light to take some pics.  This is the Union Bank of California:

This is the building next to it.  Which I work in.  It's got some great deco detailing on it that's really hard to photograph because of tall buildings on every side:

Me with Sansome Street behind me:

    I headed into work.

  • I'm pretty happy with my new hair.  It's a bit lighter.  I think it's halfway between 80's gay porn star Kevin Williams and Nazi dreamboat Rolfe from The Sound of Music.  Which is an odd combination:

I headed off after work 2nd to Howard.  This is poor old St. Josephs on Howard at 10th.  It's just a shell of a building now as everything inside seems to have been ripped out years ago.  Still, very pretty:

I continued on Howard to 11th to Harrison to 18th to South Van Ness,  This is the former Trinity church which was recently a Korean Presbyterian church and is now apparently for sale.  I can't figure out how much they want for it, but it would make a hell of a house:

    Complete with rectory and school:

And across the street from Whiz Burgers!  I've never eaten there but I love the sign. So fabulous:

I continued on South Van Ness to 26th.  This is the view looking up Mission from 26th.  I love the wig factory building!  How could I not.

    Nicely detailed with pretty Griffins:

I continued on 26ht to Valencia to Tiffany.  This is me on Tiffany:

I continued on Tiffany to 29th to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey.  This is the view looking south from Monterey and Circular:

I took Circular to Marston into the City College and then Phelan to Ocean to Lee to Holloway to Junipero Serra to Winston to Lake Merced to Skyline to the Great Highway.  The sun was setting on a beautiful day:

I continued on the Great Highway to Vicente to 16th to Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.  Walking Rufus is sooooooo much easier with his new collar and he loves not getting in trouble.  Success!

  • Monday, October 20

I almost slept in and skipped the long ride this morning but I've got new shoes so I managed to drag my ass out of bed.  I had a big ride yesterday and I'm a little creaky.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  I followed that to Middle to Bowling Green to JFK and into the Panhandle.  Then I took Baker to McAllister down into Civic Center where I took some pictures.  This is the fabulous federal building I love so much lit from behind.  I love the roof.  It's so transparent and it's got such a feeling of movement like a paper airplane taking off:

Me with the Veterans Memorial Hall behind me:

I think this building is a courthouse.  So classicalicious:

The Asian Art Musuem. They've got a new Afghan Art exhibit that's fixin' to open.  I'm looking forward to seeing it:

Here's another view of the corthouse building.  There's a big ugly box of a building in front of it, but you can still see the fantastic roofline:

I took McAllister to Larkin to Grove to Market to Sansome and into work.

  • Sunday, October 19

I went for a big ride on Sunday.  I almost didn't get out of the house because it looked so gray and crappy but Mr. Poe prodded me a little and off I went.  I headed over to Sausalito where there are all sorts of cool boats:

San Francisco in the background.  See what I meant by "gray and crappy"?

I headed north and it was sunny by the time I got to Mill Valley but it was still cool and it stayed that way all day.  I headed up to the Cheese Factory which was pretty as usual:

Then I headed up to Petaluma the long way, up over Wilson Hill.  This is a vinyard that is going dormant.  I didn't realize the leaves turned colors like that.  Pretty:

    Me:

The view from the top of Wilson Hill looking north:

I headed into Petaluma and stopped by to visit the prettiest church in Sonoma, St. Vincent De Paul. It is lavishly decorated.

They were having some cool Native American Dancing thing in front of the church.  I didn't have a whole lot of time but I watched for a minute:

I headed over to Walnut Park for a break.  I got a hair cut yesterday.  In addition, I'm a bit blonder.  It's a bit Kevin Williams circa 1988 but that's OK with me.

There's a bunch of pretty, wacky Victorians in Petaluma.  Here's a couple of them:

I started headed South.  The fog was roaring back into Hicks Valley as I was going through:

Nicasio was foggy but by the time I hit San Geronimo Valley it was sunny again.  I headed home for dinner.  Mr. Poe had done like a zillion loads of laundry and made me dinner.  What a guy.  I took the dogs for a walk.  We've gotten Rufus a pinch collar because he pulls so much when I walk him without one and I'm concerned about hurting his neck.  I'm not crazy about pinch collars but they really help.  I can now walk all three dogs with one hand.

I passed over the 9,000 mile year to date mark today.  Hooray for me!

  • Friday, October 17

I registered for the AIDS Lifecycle today.  It will be my sixth.  I can't wait.

I headed off after work 2nd to Howard to 11th to Bryant to Precita to Mission to 29th to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey to Ridgewood to Flood to Hazelwood to Greenwood to Plymouth to Wildwood to Faxon to De Montefort to Ashton to Pico to Urbano to Moncado to Winston.  This is the Stonestown Galleria muni stop.  It isn't traffic stoppin' fabulous but it's nicely designed and easy on the eyes.

I continued on Winston to Lake Merced to Skyline to the Great Highway.  The sun was starting to set and the beach looked beautiful:

    Me on the Great Highway:

    Surfers heading home:

I continued to Taravel.  This is the view south from Taravel and Wawona.  Pretty:

I continued on Taravel to Merced.  This house is all decked out for Halloween.  I like:

I continued on Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.  I got a call from REI that my commuter bike was ready.  They had to completely rebuild the rear wheel.  Luckily I did not have to pay for it.  This is why I like them.  I also picked up a new pair of mountain shoes for commuting.  The old ones were in deplorable condition and partially eaten.  Lousy poodle.

  • Friday, October 17

It was a lot warmer this morning then it's been all week.  I think it's going to be a hot day.  Not complaining.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and got this shot of sunrise behind Golden Gate Park.  Pretty:

I continued up to Geary and then took 34th tot the Palace of the Legion of Honor.   It's fabulous as always:

I took Camino Del Mar to Lake to Arguello to Clay to Fillmore to Post.  This is Japantown.  I can't wait to see what the new building is going to look like.  It could be pretty big.  The crane is enormous:

I continued on Post to Kearny to Bush to Sansome and into work.

  • Thursday, October 16

I headed off after work Sansome to Jackson to Davis to drop off my dry cleaning and then Broadway to Columbus to North Point to Van Ness to Francisco to Laguna to Chestnut to Lyon and into the Presidio.  I came around on Lincoln and stopped a little west of the Golden Gate Bridge for pics.  So pretty:

I continued on Lincoln into Camino Del Mar up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor.  They were having some kind of function and it was still open.  They've taken the Chihuly glass out of the courtyard which I think is a shame because I loved it.

The view towards the radio tower:

I continued to 34th to Balboa and down to the coast.  Gorgeous weather. Perfect day:

    Setting sun:

The cargo ship that I'd photographed from the Presidio was heading into the fog bank.

I went into Golden Gate Park at JFK and followed it to the Panhandle and then took Stanyon to Page to Scott to Duboce to Castro to 17th to Ord and then home.  Mr. Poe had to work late so I had dinner with the dogs and then took them for a long walk.

I continued on McAllister and got some great shots of the beautiful Victorians at Scott Street:

    Check out the detail:

    Me on McAllister at Scott:

I continued on McAllister to Pierce to Eddy to Fillmore to Post.   This is the view up Post Street from Polk:

And check out this slice of Trannyliciousness that I saw in front of Diva's on Post at Polk.  Shoulders like a linebacker?  Check.  Receding hairline?  Check.  Tube top?  Oh, sweet Jesus, check.  And the best part about it is that it can likely all be yours for a suprisingly low price.

I continued on Post to Kearny to Bush to Sansome and into work.

  • Wednesday, October 15

I headed off after work down Sansome to Market.  This is the view up Market from 2nd.  Gorgeous day, but I'm already sick of the short days:

I took 2nd to Howard to 11th into Bryant to Precita to Mission to 29th to San
Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey into Santa Clara into Vicente
down to the coast.  The sun was starting to set but the beach looked gorgeous.  This is the view north towards Marin:

    Setting sun:

    Me:

I took Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home.  I had to run my commuter bike in for maintenance at REI.  There's something terribly wrong with my rear wheel.  It's only about five months old and I was grumbling about having to take it in to get worked on because it had loose spokes.  When they started looking at it they realized that the loose spokes were actually broken off at the nipple and indicative of a larger structural problem with the wheel.  Eek!  Luckily, since the wheel is so recent and they built in in the first place I'm not going to have to pay for any of the work they're doing on it which is good because it sounds expensive.  It should be ready on Saturday, but I'm not holding my breath.

  • Wednesday, October 15

It was a bit warmer this morning or maybe it was just that I got out of the house late.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  The sunrise was gorgeous and the ocean looked amazing:

    Full moon:

I came down the Great Highway and then took Skyline to Lake Merced to Winston to Cerritos to Moncada to Urbano to Pico to Ashton to De Monefort.  This is pretty Saint Emydius on Ashton at DeMontefort:

I continued on De Monefort to Miramar to Ocean to Phelan to Judson to Foerster to Monterey to Diamond to Wilder to Arlington.  I was excited to see that the great Sarah Palin Halloween decorations were still up on Arlington because my pics from last week were blurry and I love it so much:

I continued on Arlington to Randall to San Jose to Duncan to Valencia.  This is an 1899 (so says the sign) pharmace building on Valencia.  It's incredibly beautiful:

I continued on Valencia.  This building is at 14th, I think.  There are lots of buildings like it in the Mission.  This one is in great condition and is well painted.

I was totally cruised by TAB who was crossing the street at 14th.  Me love you long time.

I continued on Valencia to Otis to Gough to Market to Sansome and into work.
