Month: March 2008

  • Friday, March 8

I had to go to the dentist Friday morning, and while I was out doing that I got some shots of the Soma Grande.  It's a big new condo building up on Mission between 7th and 8th next to the federal building.  It has beautiful views except that they're building a big new building next to it that will block a lot of them:

After work I headed home up Market because we were having a meeting for the Different Spokes AIDS Lifecycle fundraising party.  Then we met Nathan for dinner.  Fun day.

Happy Friday!  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  I followed up to Stow Lake and then got on JFK and then took 8th to Lake to Arguello and into the Presidio.  I rode around Washington and then got on Lincoln where I took some pics.  Here's a little bridge porn:

    .
And one of me as well:

I took Lincoln to Crissy Field and onto Marina Blvd and then up into Fort Mason.  More brige porn:

This time with classy cruise ship:

I took Beach to Embarcadero to Washington to Battery to Sacramento to Sansome and into work.

  • Thursday, March 7

I headed off after work Market to Cyril Magnin to Ellis to Lauguna to Eddy to Broderick.  I stopped to get some pice from the top of Eddy:

And these are some of the cool houses that have that view:

I took Broderick to Turk into Balboa to 8th to JFK and then down to the ocean.  The North Windmill was beautiful.  No tulips yet:

I camed down the Great Highway and stopped at the foot of Sloat.  It was, as usual, surferlicious:

    Look at this sunset:

    And me enjoying it:

I came down the Great Highway to Skyline to John Muir.  There were some rowers on the lake:

I continued on John Muir to Holloway to Plymouth to Ocean to Phelan to Judson to Genessee to Monterey to Diamond to Chenery to Randall to San Jose to 29th to Tiffany to Valencia to 18th to Diamond to 17th and home.  I'm loving these longer days!

  • Thursday, March 6

I headed home for lunch where I found that Mr. Poe had left me flowers.  How sweet!

The message relates to the song "That's How You Know" from the movie Enchanted.  Check out 1:08:

The dogs were sleepy.  Mimi wouldn't even come out of the study:

Then I had to head back to work.

  • Thursday, March 6

It was a little cloudy this morning but it was dry and that's all I cared about.  I'll take it!  I headed out Corbett to Portola to Fowler to Teresita to Gaviota to Bella Vista to Burlwood to Los Palmos to Hazelwood to Yerba Buena to Saint Elmo where I got this shot looking south:

And one of me as well:

I continued on Saint Elmo to El Verano into Northgate to Darien to San Fernando to Ocean to Clearfield into 35th to Yorba to 35th to Vicente and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  I followed it to the Music Concourse where I got a nice shot of the De Young.  I love this building.  It looks a little stone age-y with the trees in the foreground:

This is a detail of the shell in the park.  It's under construction, but the detail looks good:

I took JFK and left the park at 8th Ave where I got a shot of Star of the Seas Church:

I continued on 8th Ave to California into Cornwall to Arguello to Euclid to Presidio to Post to Kearny to Bush to Sansome and into work.

  • Wednesday, March 5

I headed off after work Sutter to Polk where I got a flat tire.  I love changing a tire in the Polk.  It's that eclectic mix of crackheads and trannies that keep the neighborhood humming.  So to speak.  I forgot to stuff a new tube in my bag after I changed my flat on Monday, so I had to patch it and, alas, it didn't hold when I tried to inflate it.  #%#@#$!!!!!  I didn't have another cartridge or tube and I was in road shoes and I was kind of out of options.  I called Chris Duplantis who came to my rescue with Sofi, the world's sweetest dog.  My hero.

  • Wednesday, March 5

It was cold but clear this morning.  I'll take it.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel to 14th to Ulloa and down to the Ocean.  I came up the Great Highway and then got on Geary to 34th and then up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor.  It was a gorgeous morning to be up there:

Here's me in front of the sculpture I don't understand.  It's called Pax Jerusalemme by Mark di Suvero.  You can read more about him here.  I still don't get it.  Ah, Abstract Expressionism....

This is the Marin Headlands from the parking lot in front of the Legion of Honor:

This is a close up from the same vantage point.  Picturesque!

I came down Camino Del Mar to Lake to Arguello to Clay to Fillmore to Pacific.  I got this shot of the Bay Bridge from Pacific and Mason:

I continued on Pacific to Powell to Jackson to Montgomery to Clay to Sansome and into work.

  • Tuesday, January 5

I headed home for lunch and noted that the house down the street is coming along.  It's a big addition attached to the older structure.  I'm interested to see what they do to the old part because it was in sad, sad condition:

After work I headed out Sutter to Presidio to Euclid to Arguello and into Golden Gate Park.  I came down JFK to Bernice Rodgers to MLK and then down the Great Highway.  I stopped at the foot of Sloat for a pic of the beautiful sunset:

    Here's me enjoying it:

The warmer weather and longer days have brought the surfers back.  Which I appreciate:

I continued on the Great Highway to Skyline to John Muir to Lake Merced to Folt to Holloway to Harold to Ocean to Phelan to Judson to Gennessee to Monterey to Diamond to Chenery to Randall to San Jose to 29th to Tiffany to Valencia to 18th to Diamond to Corbett and then home.  Mr. Poe had class but he'd left me dinner.  What a guy.

  • Tuesday, March 4

It was another gorgeous morning!  I headed off Corbet to Portola to Fowler to Teresita to Gaviota to Bella Vista to Burlwood to Los Palmos to Hazelwood.  Hazelwood is a really pretty street:

here's a shot of me as well:

I continued on Hazelwood to Yerba Buena to Saint Elmo where I saw the Chinese Consulate.  Which totally took be by suprise because I'd never noticed it before.  The house is OK but the gardens are fabulous:

This is the house across the street:

I continued on Saint Elmo to Monterey into Santa Clara into Vicente to 20th to Ortega.  This is the Lycee Francais on Ortega at 20th:

I took Ortega down to the Great Highway and then came up the coast and into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  I followed it to the Music Concourse.  I love the de Young Museum.  It's totally fabulous inside and out:

I got on JFK into the Panhandle and then took Baker to Golden Gate where I got a flat at Fillmore.  There's something wrong with my rim and it's giving me these spectacular blowouts that sound like gunshots.  Which caused a lot of exitement where it happened --  across the street from the projects at Golden Gate and Fillmore!  I put electrical tape on the suspect area and I'm taking it in to get looked at tomorrow night.  I can ride on my trek bike until it's fixed.  I continued on Golden Gate to Market to Sansome and into work.  Fabulous ride!

  • Monday, March 3

I headed off after work up Columbus to Washington Square to take pics of Saint Peter and Paul's.  Not my very favorite, but definitely in my top 10:

Here's me with Columbus behind me:

I took Powell to North Point to Van Ness to Francisco to Laguna to Chestnut and into the Presidio.  I came up Arguello and stopped by Inspiration Point for some pics:

I came out of the Presidio at Arguello and rode it into Golden Gate Park.  This is the Richmond with Marin Headlands rising behind it from the hill behind the Conservatory of Flowers:

I got on JFK and rode that to Chain of Lakes into 41st to Kirkam to the Great Highway to Ortega where I got a great shot of the setting sun:

I came up Ortega to 20th to Kirkam to 6th to Hugo to Frederick to Cole to Alma to Belvedere to Carmel to Clayton to Corbett and then home.  Mr. Poe had made me a delicious dinner.  What a guy.
