It was a beautiful afternoon on Thursday in San Francisco.  I headed home for lunch and then went on a nice ride after work I headed off Columbus to North Point where I stopped for a pic of the spanking new bicycle lane which is really, really nice.  We've been getting so many new bike lanes in the city the last month I've been feeling like Sally Field after she won her Oscar.  You like me!  You really like me!  Of course, it has more to do with a four year injuction forced down our throats by a crazy, fucking asshole being finally lifted, but I'm going to enjoy my moment anyway:

I continued on North Point to Van Ness to Francisco to Laguna to Chestnut to Baker.  This ginormous house in the Marina sits on some of the poorest soil yet most expensive real estate in the city--  I call it "Liquifabulous":

I stopped at the Palace of the Legion of Honor for a few pics:

From there I headed over to Mason and then went out to Fort Point which I haven't been to in forever:

I headed up to Lincoln and then made my way up to Immigrant Point where I stopped for a few pics:

    Me:

I came out of the Presidio at the 15th Ave gate and then headed over to the Music Concourse where I stopped for pics:

I headed over to MLK and then to 9th to Judah to 7th into Laguna Honda to Woodside to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.  Dinner was dominated by the horrific video from the explosion and fire in San Bruno.  Mimi insists that she was at the movies alone when the explosion happened and that she doesn't know nothin' bout a moonshine operation off of Skyline.

I managed to get my ass out of bed a little earlier this morning and went for a little ride before work.  The weather was much improved over yesterday.  I headed off Corbett to Clayton to Frederick to Cole to Haight to Stanyan and into Golden Gate Park at JFK to 8th to California to 6th to Lake to Arguello to Clay to Fillmore to Post.  This is Japantown this morning:

    Me:

I continued on Post to Grant.  I love this building at Grant and Post.  The facade is modern on a much older building and it's beautiful and gives such a feeling of light and transparency to a building that otherwise had none of those features:

I took Grant to Bush to Sansome and into work.

I wasn't feeling very well on Monday so I cancelled my Different Spokes ride for that day and hung around the house instead.  I worked from home on Tuesday which turned out to be super dangerous because I cut the dickens out of my finger making lunch and it looked a little this:

Wednesday I predictably didn't jump out of bed and just came down Market which I would have probably done anyway had I gotten up early because it was raining.  It's very early in the season to see any rain in San Francisco and we're all hoping that we haven't skipped fall and moved on to winter after such a cold summer.  I managed to make it home for lunch and went for a ride after work.  I rode Howard to 11th to Harrison to 21st.  This building is at Harrison and Folsom and it's very pretty but it seems to be screaming for the elaborate Victorian roof that it lost at some point in it's history:

This grand house has a kind of crappy attic addition but is still pretty fabulous:

I continued on 21st to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey to Ridgewood to Flood to Hazelwood to Greenwood to Plymouth to Wildwood.  This is the view down pretty Miramar from Wildwood.  You can really see which direction the wind blows:

The view looking up Miramar from Wildwood:

    Me:

I continued on Wildwood to Faxon to De Monefort to Ashton to Head to Holloway to Font to Lake Merced to John Muir to Skyline to the Great Highway.  This is the view looking north from the Great Highway just north of Lake Merced:

I continued on the Great Highway to Vicente to 16th to Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.  The dogs and I went for a nice walk after dinner and then I went to bed.  It was a long day.

Sunday I led a Different Spokes ride out to Rodeo Beach.  McCullough is now closed for repaving so we had to take the tunnel both ways.  It was really fun and I had a good time.  The weather was perfect.

I did a lot of hills on Wednesday night and then a bunch more Thursday morning and whas pretty beat by the time Thursday evening rolled around so I elected to take as flat of a route as I could manage.  I took Howard to 11th to Harrison.  This is the view down 24th from Harrison.  Note the headquarters of the Precita Eyes Mural Project which is responsible for some of my favorites:

I continued on Harrison to Precita.  This is the view up Folsom from Precita.  Precita Park is such a pretty neighborhood:

I continued on Precita to Mission to Highland to Arlington to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey into Santa Clara to Portola to Claremont to Dewey to Laguna Honda into 7th to Hugo to 3rd to Frederick to Stanyan.  This is the view down Stanyan from Frederick:

    Me:

I continued on Stanyan to Page to Scott to Waller to Steiner into Sanchez to Market to 17th to Ord and home for dinner.  I was totally beat and went to bed early.

I managed to get up and out of the house at a reasonable hour this morning.  I headed off 17th to Eureka to 23rd to Diamond to Diamond Heights to Portola to Twin Peaks.  It was warm, gorgeous, and totally clear with a view all the way out to the Farallones:

I headed up to the Twin Peaks viewing platform which has the most spectacular view when it isn't foggy:

    Me:

I continued on Twin Peaks to Clayton to Ashbury to Frederick to Masonic to Haight to Baker to Steiner.  This is pretty St. Dominic's at Steiner and Bush.  I don't see it in the morning often which is a shame.  It's got such great detail:

I continued on Steiner and stopped to get a pic of St. Vincent De Paul at Green:

I took Green to Polk to North Point where I saw this view of the 1886 Balclutha moored in the Maritime National Historic Park:

I continued on North Point to the Embarcadero to Battery to Washington to Sansome and into work.  It's gonna be hot today!

I couldn't get it together Wednesday morning and went to work pretty directly--  17th to Eureka to 18th to Harrison to 17th to Kansas into Townsend to 2nd to Market to Sansome and into work.  I headed home for lunch and it was pretty warm.  By the end of the day it was gorgeous.  I headed off Sutter to Fillmore to Clay to Spruce to Washington where I stopped to get a pic of the view of the North Bay:

I continued on Washington to Arguello to Lake to 23rd to Cabrillo to 47th to Fulton to the Great Highway.  It was definitely beach weather and indeed there were a bunch of people at Ocean Beach:

    Me:

I headed down the Great Highway and stopped around Rivera for pics.  When the weather is nice the Great Highway is gorgeous:

I continued on the Great Highway to Sloat to Clearfield to Ocean.  This is the view up one of the avenues near the ocean off of Ocean.  I like how all the houses are about the same size and it gives the neighborhood such a nice homogeneity without all of the houses having to be identical:

Some of the houses on Ocean are pretty big.  This home is so spectacular. It's everything that you think of when you think California:

I continued on Ocean to San Leandro.  San Leandro is a very pretty street in the Balboa Terrace neighborhood:

I continued on San Leandro to Darien.  Which is such a pretty street all the way up:

I continued on Darien to North Gate to El Verano.  This spectactular home is on Fernwood and Maywood:

I continued on El Verano to Fernwood to Rosewood.  There are glorious views of the ocean from up on Rosewood:

Some of the houses that get that view:

I continued on Rosewood to Ravenwood to Miramar to Juanita.  This is fabulous Mount Davidson park rising behind these pretty houses:

I have no idea where the staircase leads but it's on my list to find out:

I continued on Juanita to Teresita to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.  It was still pretty warm when we went to bed.

I went home early to make Mr. Poe birthday dinner and just rode up Market home.  Yesterday was his first day back at school with the kids there so I knew he wasn't going to make it home early and he'd probably rather eat in.  I made him an enormous dinner.  When he walked in the door I had a plate waiting for him with olives, marinated peppers, these awesome habanero almonds that we found at Walgreen (!) last weekend and canapes, some with cheese and nuts on them and the others with very thinly sliced salami and honey balsamic mustard.  When he polished that off I made him thee salmon cakes each with a unique sauce (tomato aoli, dill mustard, tartar sauce).  I think they probably tasted OK but the salmon cakes looked a little dry to me but it's kind of hard to make stuff like that when you're afraid to use eggs because of all the recalls.   Finally I made him a huge pan of enchiladas which takes forever because I make the sauce from scratch and it really has to cook down to take the edge off of the chilies in it of which there were six different varieties.  I used chorizo in the filling and let me tell you how fucking disgusting that shit is before it's cooked.  I think it has supplanted raw chicken as the grossest thing ever.  Since the sauce was vegan, I made a little pan of enchiladas with black bean and potato filling and they were really good.  My enchilada sauce is fucking awesome and I'm thinking a slight variation of that may be making an appearance at dinner as a chile and corn soup served over rice kind of like gumbo.  Mr. Poe still managed to get down a piece of birthday cake after that.  I didn't make him a cake he like's the Just Desserts ones from the store better.  Let's all hear it for Joseph who managed to turn out a meal like that on a Tuesday and also because he was able to handle raw chorizo without vomiting.

I walked the dogs after dinner which went slowly because I was very, very full up to the Mars street and down the Saturn steps.  Some cute Asian guys have moved into one of the buildings on Ord St and they and their admirers seem to have dropped the median age on Ord St/Ct by at least a decade.  We went to bed pretty early until Ashley Jr. walked on Mimi in the middle of the night which launched a little dog brawl on top of the bed.  Mr. Poe gave everyone a spanking which meant that Mimi and Ashley Jr. slept on top of me for the rest of the night for protection.  Like that would do any good.
