Month: October 2008

After work I headed off Market to Turk and up Lone Mountain.  This is the USF campus on Lone Mountain:

    Nicely detailed:

I continued on Turk to Arguello to Cabrillo to Funston and into Golden Gate Park at the Rose Garden.  Which still looks pretty but it kind of feels like it's almost over for the season.

The deYoung from the Rose Garden.  Such a pretty facade and I love the way it's starting to darken a little:

I got on JFK and took it to Bernice Rodgers to the Great Highway.  I came down to the coast and too Noriega to 32nd to Pacheco to 31st to Santiago to 14th to Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.

It was a bit warmer this morning!  I managed to get out of the house on time this morning and rode Corbett to Portola to Fowler into Teresita to Gaviota to Bella Vista to Burlwood to Los Palmos to Hazelwood to Yerba Buena to Brentwood into North Gate to Darien to San Fernando to Ocean to Eucalypus to Middlefield to Lake Merced to Skyline to the Great Highway.  I came up the coast and got this spectacular shot of the Marin Headlands:

I continued on the Great Highway and then got on Point Lobos to 45th to Clement to 34th and up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor.  Here is me sitting on the edge of the reflecting pool:

    Pax Jerusalemme reflected:

Palace of the Legion of Honor from a low angle:

I headed down Camino Del Mar to Lake to Arguello to Clay.  These are some of the gorgeous homes on Clay in Presidio Heights:

I continued on Clay to Fillmore to Post to Kearny to Bush to Sansome and into work.

  • Tuesday, September 30

The tube on my rear wheel exploded with a loud gunshot like sound at the corner or Castro and Market while I was coming back from lunch.  The drama!  The last time I had this issue it was the tire and coincidentally the tire that it happened on was only a few weeks old so I'm wondering if it's the same issue.  If it is, I'm switching tire brands.  I'm hoping it was just a fluke.

After work I headed off up Columbus where I saw this bizarre promotion at the porn store.  Teachers get 20% off and School Administrators 10% off.  I love that.  Because you're not ready for the new school year without sexy costumes.

I continued on Columbus where I spied this Beaux Arts inspired building.

You can see it in the detail:

A little further down was a deco version of the same:

    Me on Columbus:

I continued on Columbus to North Point to Van Ness to Francisco to Gough to Chestnut to Lyon and into the Presidio.  I came around on Lincoln into Camino Del Mar in Seacliff and then up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor.  Look at this gorgeous late afternoon:

Sun going down behind the Palace of the Legion of Honor:

    Looking north towards the ocean:

I came out at 34th to Balboa and down to the coast.  I came down the Great Highway and stopped at the beach.  The surfers were heading home:

And the sun was starting to set:

I went into Golden Gate Park at JFK and took it to the Panhandle to Stanyon to Page to Scott to Haight to Pierce to Waller to Steiner into Sanchez to Market to 17th to Ord and home for dinner.  Mr. Poe was late so I took the dogs for their walk and then came home for dinner.  It was a long day.

I'm adding two new features to my statistics.  I started tracking my mileage on 10/1/07 so now I can report rolling year as well as the total since then.  I wish I'd started tracking mileage a long time ago.  I have no idea how many miles I've logged in since I started training for my first AIDSRide in 2001.  I'm guessing a lot.
