Month: July 2008

I did another ride with Different Spokes on Sunday.  Larry L'Italien led a ride up to Alpine Dam and then over Mt. Tam.  It was lots and lots of fun.  Here we are in Fairfax:

    Mr. L'Italien-- our fearless leader:

I saw a cute baby deer on my way up to Alpine Dam.  So cute and so young!  Not too afraid of me.  He looked at me long enough for me to get a pic:

    Alpine Dam lake:

Here's a picture of Larry taking a picture of David:

    Larry again:

    Prettu view:

    One of me:

    Bolinas Lagoon and Stinson Beach:

We saw these hang gliders at the top of the mountain.  Nuts!  I'd be screaming my head off the whole way down and would require a clean pair of pants at the bottom:

I got home and Mr. Poe made me dinner.  Sweet little Ashley got his head stuck in his donut shaped toy..  Amusing!

I was totally wiped out so I went to bed early.

I headed off on the monthly Jersey Ride with Different Spokes.  We did Tiburon loop and then a couple of us did Marin Headlands after.  It was lots of fun!  Here some pics from before we left:

Cutest dog ever.  He was super shy and ignored us when we showed up but was wagging his tail and acting all sassy by the time we left.

  • Friday, July 11

Mr. Poe met me at lunch and we went shopping so I didn't head home on my bike.  We went and hit the sale at the North Face and then went to the comic book store.

After work I headed off Columbus to North Point to Van Ness to Francisco to Gough to Chestnut to Lyon and into the Presidio.  I came out the Arguello Gate and took Arguello into Golden Gate Park and then JFK to Middle to Bowling Green to MLK and out of the park at 9th.  I took 9th up onto Forest Hill and got some pics:

    Fog laced radio tower:

    Pretty homes on Sotello:

    Pretty home on 9th Ave

I continued on 9th to 12th to Quintara to 14th and stopped to take some pics of the ocean:

And me with Quintara behind me:

Then I went down 14th and it was a block of steep where I was vaguely afraid that my back rear was going to come up and I was going to flip over forward.  That's steep!   Then I took Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett and then home.

Happy Friday!  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  I followed it to Middle to Transverse to JFK to 8th.  I got a shot of Star of the Seas as I headed North:

I continued on 8th to Lake to Arguello and into the Presidio.  I headed down to Crissy Field and stopped for some pics.

    The beach at Crissy Field:

    I also took this video:

Then I headed over to the Palace of Fine Arts to check out the renovation.  It's coming along:

Me in front of the pond:

I took Beach to Cervantes to Bay to Laguna to Francisco to Van Ness to North Point to Columbus to Clay to Sansome and into work.

  • Thursday, July 10

I headed off after work Columbus to North Point to Van Ness to Francisco to Gough to Chestnut to Lyon and into the Presidio.  I came around on Lincoln and went into Seacliff at Camino Del Mar.  I took some pics of the pretty homes on 32nd Avenue:

I continued on 32nd to Anza to 39th to Balboa.  New Restaurant.  Interesting name.

I continued on Balboa down to the ocean and stopped for pics.  All these birds were hanging out.  Lousy beatniks.

    Seal Rocks

    The Cliff House

    The beautiful North Windmill

I went into Golden Gate Park at JFK and followed it to the Panhandle and then Page to Steiner into Sanchez to Market to 17th and then home.

  • Thursday, July 10

Look I'm a video blogger!  OMG!  I shot this this morning at ocean beach.

  • Thursday, July 10

I got up and my knee didn't feel a lot worse which was really good news.  Mr. Poe cleaned it up again and put a new bandage on it and then I was ready to go.  The dogs, evidently, had been out partying at the Poodle Room all night and were very sleepy.  If you look very closely you can see that they all had hand stamps.

I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  Man was it ever foggy.  Surprisingly not cold, though, which was kind of weird.

I came up the Great Highway and then went into Golden Gate Park at JFK.  I followed it to the Panhandle and then took Masonic to Hayes.  I stopped at the top of Hayes at Pierce to take a pic looking west.  You can see where the fog ends:

A shot east looking towards downtown:

This incredible mansion is at Buchanan and Hayes.  The top level is magnificent:

I continued on Hayes to Gough to Fell to Market to Sansome and into work.

  • Wednesday, July 9

I headed off after work down 2nd and immediately got hit by another bicyclist.  Idiot!  He had no helmet on and squeezed past me on the right about an inch away from me and then slammed on his brakes.  I skinned my knee but was otherwise uninjured.  I screamed a string of expletives at him that you could probably hear from Oakland.  I'm hoping next time he chooses to walk.  I got back on my bike and my knee felt a little wonky but I didn't think it was going to be a big issue.  Here was my mood (full disclosure photo was taken later from recreated mood):

I was most certainly not going to let a little accident mess up my ride.  I continued on 2nd to Howard to 11th to Folsom to 15th to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey to Ridgewood to Flood to Hazelwood to Greenwood to Northwood to Wildwood to Faxon to De Montefort to Pico to Urbano to Moncado.  This is the viw over the Ingleside from Moncado and Cerritos:

These are some of the beautiful homes in that neighborhood:

This one is my favorite.  It's got such great detail and the scale is so wonderful for its style.

Here is proof my mood had improved:

I took Cerritos to Juinipero Serra to Euclid to Melba to Ocean to 23rd where I stopped to take pics of this restored water pumping station.  It's incredible.  I can't believe what a great job they did on this restoration because it most certainly did not look like this when I moved here.

I took 23rd to Sloat to Gabilan to Crestlake to Wawona to 30th to Vicente.  Here's another shot of Saint Cecilia's.  It's also pretty in the afternoon sun:

I continued on Vicente to 17th to Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett and home.  Mr. Poe cleaned my knee and put a big bandage on it and then fed me taco salad.  Rufus was very concerned.

  • Wednesday, July 9

I finally managed to get my ass out of bed on time this morning and get out of the house on time.  I love being back on my schedule.  It was nice and warm this morning.  I wonder how hot it's going to get today.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel to 17th to Vicente.  I stopped to get a few pic of pretty Saint Cecilia's which always looks so welcoming in the morning light:

Me with Vicente street in the background.

I continued on Vicente to the Great Highway and then headed north.  I ran into Joe Mueller on his way to work and talked to him for a few minutes.  Then I headed up to Geary to 34th to the Palace of the Legion of Honor.  I took this pic with the Pax Jerusalem sculpture in the foreground.  Still don't get it.

I took Camino Del Mar to Lake to Arguello to Clay to Fillmore to Pacific to Powell to Jackson to Columbus to Clay to Sansome and into work.

  • Tuesday, July 8

I slept in yet again.  We didn't get back from the airport until very late and then dogs were very excited.  So I came down Market into work and vowed to get up on time on Wednesday.  It was hot in the bay area but not so much in the city.  After work I headed off Sutter to Presidio to Euclid to Arguello to Cabrillo to 30th and into Golden Gate Park.  I stopped at Spreckels Lake for a few pics.  This is the view looking NW towards St. Thomas the Apostle:

And me with the lake in the background:

I took JFK to Bernice Rodgers to MLK to the Great Highway.  I headed south and then took Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett and then home.  Mr. Poe made a fantastic dinner.  Huzzah!  The dogs got steak which led to a lot of excitement.

My friend and photographer took this picture of me at the pride parade.

This one as taken by John Hershey.

I like the overall effect but still think I looked a little corpse-y.  If you're wondering what I used to achieve this effect it was:

    Lorac Tantalizer all over
    Nars Sin on contour
Nars All About Eve all over eye socket and down bridge of nose
Copious amounts of Urban Decay Marshmallow powder all over legs and to highlight on cheekbones, forehead, and nose.

I think where I went wrong was that the Marshmallow powder was too light and if I would have used a darker, more golden glitter the effect would have been better.  Also, I must remember to smile during the parade.
