We went to the Wondercon! How did I get Mr. Poe to go to a comic book convention?? It was a masterful combination of lies and deceit. I could have never gotten him to agree to go on his own volition and he would have sent me off without him but that wouldn’t have been as much fun so I figured that my best option was to get the tickets ahead of time and then deliver him to the convention and before he knew what was going on it would be too late. The convention was held at Moscone Center between 3rd and 4th. So, I arranged for us to meet Nathan at Chipotle Burritos on New Montgomery at Jessie for lunch. This is a detail from the PG&E building next door to it. So super fantastic:

I was starting to get concerned that my cover was gonna get blown by people walking past the building in costume. Surprisingly, women in thigh high boots with six inch stiletto heels and elaborate anime style outfits didn’t tip him off. After we had lunch we headed towards Bloomingdale. He wanted to walk down Mission but I convinced him to go down Howard. And then we saw the convention across the street and he asked what all those people were doing in line. We then crossed the street because I told him I wanted to stop at Jollibee to see if they had juice drinks. But we kept walking into the convention center and he really hadn’t put all the pieces together and then I whipped out the tickets and he looked like a trapped animal. Zing! I think the part that really chaffed was that he didn’t think I was smart enough to pull of such an elaborate deception. I wonder what he’ll think at the Renaissance Faire– I mean Sandwich Convention. Shhh.
The convention was really fun. There were quite a few people in costumes. Some of them I felt sorry for. Those would be the hapless boyfriends who were forced to dress up to match their girlfriend’s anime costumes. Kawaii!
I don’t even know what to say about this guy in the “Punisher” costume other than to suggest that he either work out more or get a more supportive spandex outfit. He did have a really nice ass though but I’ll bet he wears those white boots out on dates:

Here’s Nathan with Mr. Poe who clearly loves the comic book convention:

And one of Nathan and myself:

I got a couple of T shirts but skipped buying any comics. My collection needs a lot of work before I’m going to expand it past buying new issues. I still have another 200 or so that need to be rebagged and boxed and then I need to catalog them. We headed home and had dinner and went to bed early. I was beat from all the cool stuff at the convention and I had a ride the next day.
