Month: December 2007

  • Monday, December 3

I headed out Corbett to Clayton to Frederick to Stanyon and into Golden Gate Park.  I rode down JFK to the ocean and then came up the Great Highway to Geary.  I rode up to the palace of the legion of honor where I took a couple of pics of the Holocaust Memorial.  It's not easy to photograph in the morning because a group of Asian seniors inexplicably do Tai Chi there.

Here's me in front of it.

And the view over to Marin Headlands

I rode down El Camino Del Mar in Seacliff.  There's a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge from there:

I continued to Lincoln in the Presidio and then out of the Presidio at Crissy Field, through the Marina, Over Fort Mason and then up Columbus.

  • Saturday, December 1

I got up early and walked the dogs and had a big big day on my bike.  I rode out Corbett to Clayton to Beulah to Stanyon and into Golden Gate Park and out the Arguello Gate and then into the Presidio to Washington to Lincoln and over the Golden Gate Bridge.  I wend down into Sausalito and then onto the bike path and over Camino Alto.  This pretty inn is in Larkspur:

I took Sir Francis Drake up over White's Hill into Lagunitas Valley and then over to Nicasio and then I headed up to Petaluma past the Cheese Factory.  The is the pretty Dolcini farm on the way to Petaluma:

I love Petaluma.  It's so pretty and there are loads of gorgeous buildings to look at.  I stopped in Hill Plaza Park which has lovely views:

I left Petaluma on Washington which turned into Bodega Ave.  This farmhouse or whatever it is is on Bodega Ave:

I took Bodega Ave to Tomales Road and then out to Tomales and then I turned on the 1 and came down into Tomales Bay.  It's so pretty there:

I continued on the 1 to Point Reyes Station to Pt Reyes - Petaluma to Platform Bridge to Samuel P Taylor Park.  I followed the bike path and then got on Sir Francis Drake and took that back into Ross and then back down Magnolia to Camilno Alto to the bike path and then back into Sausalito, over the bridge and then Washington to Wedermeyer to Lake to 8th.  This is Clement at 8th just after sunset:

I came up Market to 17th for lunch and got some shots of the renovation on Ord Street.  It's so amazing the way they've been able to hoist the house up on stilts while they excavate all around it for the new foundation.  It reminds me of Joan Rivers:

Then I headed down Market to Noe to Duboce to Scott to Post to Fillmore and then to the Mac Store.  Then I came back down Fillmore to Bush.  I forget where these places are on Bush but it's like Octavia or Buchanan or something like that:

I continued down Bush to Sansome and back to work.  After, I headed out 2nd to Howard to 11th to Folsom to 17th to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to San Jose Ave to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey.  I forget where these lights are but they're somewhere in St. Francis Wood.

I continued on Monterey to Santa Clara to Vicente down to the ocean and then up the Great Highway to Kirkham.  These lights are on Kirkham:

I continued to 8th to Judah to Clayton to 17th and then home.

It was cold when I got up!  I rode out Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the ocean.  I came up the Great Highway to JFK and rode into Golden Gate Park.  The Conservatory of Flowers was a little frosty!

Here I am in front of it:

I came out of the park at the Panhandle and rode through it to Baker and then to Fulton.  These beautiful Victorians are on Broderick at Fulton:

    And of course the detail:

I continued down Fulton.  This is the view of City Hall from Fulton and Scott:

And this is my favorite of the scooby doo mansions in Alamo Square.  I can see a crooked real estate agent dressed up like the miner 49er to chase away people from the treasure now:

These are some of the glamorous places on Fulton opposite Alamo Square:

This is City Hall from Franklin and Fulton.  It's so fabulous:

I continued down Fulton to Franklin to McAllister to Polk to O'Farrell.  This is the view down O'Farrell Street towards the Central Tower:

I continued down O'Farrell to Powell to Post to Kearny to Bush and then into work.

  • Wednesday, November 28

I headed home for lunch and they're selling Christmas trees at Noe and Market again this year!  This kind of surprised me because I thought that that lot had been sold and they were starting construction.  Maybe after Christmas:

This is the Central Tower on 3rd at Market.  It doesn't look it, but it was built in 1898 and was orignally topped with a glamorous baroque dome and was apparently the tallest building west of the Mississippi for many years.  The current facade is a result of a 1938 renovation.  You can read more about it here:

The main level looks to me to be a terrible 80's addition.  Don't look at it!  It will hurt your eyes!

Here is the completed DeYoung building.  The Ritz Carlton did such a great job renovating it.  It's hard to believe that the they ever covered up this gorgeous facade in the first place:

After work I rode out Sutter to Fillmore to Sacramento to Arguello to Lake to 23rd to Cabrillo down to the Ocean and then down the Great Highway to Vicente to 18th Ave to Taravel to Dewey to Woodside to Portola to Corbett and then home.
