I headed home for lunch and they're selling Christmas trees at Noe and Market again this year! This kind of surprised me because I thought that that lot had been sold and they were starting construction. Maybe after Christmas:
This is the Central Tower on 3rd at Market. It doesn't look it, but it was built in 1898 and was orignally topped with a glamorous baroque dome and was apparently the tallest building west of the Mississippi for many years. The current facade is a result of a 1938 renovation. You can read more about it here:
The main level looks to me to be a terrible 80's addition. Don't look at it! It will hurt your eyes!
Here is the completed DeYoung building. The Ritz Carlton did such a great job renovating it. It's hard to believe that the they ever covered up this gorgeous facade in the first place:
After work I rode out Sutter to Fillmore to Sacramento to Arguello to Lake to 23rd to Cabrillo down to the Ocean and then down the Great Highway to Vicente to 18th Ave to Taravel to Dewey to Woodside to Portola to Corbett and then home.
