Month: November 2007

  • Sunday, November 11

I had another Lifecycle training ride this morning.  I headed out a few minutes early so I could ride around a little.  The weather was gorgeous.  I rode Corbett to Clayton to Carl to Cole to Frederick into Lincoln to 9th Ave and into Golden Gate Park.  I rode around the park and came out at 8th Ave and then Lake to 15th Ave into the Presidio.  I stopped at Immigrant Point for some pictures.  What a fabulous morning!

And one of me as well.

I headed down to Crissy Field and made my way to Sports Basement for a ride.  We had a nice ride and everybody seemed to have a pretty good time.  On the way home I rode Marina Blvd to Fort Mason into Fishermans Wharf to Polk to Market to 17th St and then home.

It rained and was generally crappy all day so I didn't go biking.  We did, however, go to Target where Mr. Poe purchased a giant inflatable snowman to go in out front yard and an unspeakably tacky Santa on sleigh to go on our porch.  I'm sure the neighbors are gonna love it.

  • Friday, November 9

I headed out after work Sutter to Presidio to Euclid to Arguello to Lake.  I headed down lake and stopped at Mountain Lake Park and let me tell you, that place is super spooky after dark but the restroom was open and I needed that.  Luckily, I was able to get out of there without being knifed by a psychopath and I continued down Lake to 24th ave to Cabrillo to 9th Ave and then through Golden Gate Park.  I left the park at 9th Ave and took Judah into Parnassus to Clayton to 17th and then home.

    Bike Mileage:
    Today                             32.6

  • Friday, November 9

It was sunny and gorgeous this morning!  Which it hasn't been all week and I wasn't in a very good mood when I left the house and the beautiful weather somewhat cheered me up.  I rode out Corbett to Clayton to Parnassus into Judah to 9th Ave and into the Golden Gate Park.  I stopped at the Music Concourse and got a pic of the gorgeous DeYoung Museum:

And also the California Academy of Sciences:

And, of course, one of me as well:

I rode through the park which was beautiful on such a nice, sunny morning.  I stopped by Spreckels lake to get a shot of the the lake with St. Thomas rising behind it:

I continued down to the ocean and came up Ocean Beach where I spied some surferlicious surfers scampering about:

Seal Rock looked beautiful in the morning sun:

This is shot of the beach taken from just above the Cliff House.  Perfect fall morning:

Thank you Cosco for hiring Mr. Magoo to drive your container ships and poison our bay:

I went up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor and then down Camino del Mar into the Presidio. I came around Lincoln down to Crissy Field and then took Marina Blvd to Fort Mason to Fishermans Wharf and then into work on Columbus.

  • Thursday, November 8

We had a fire drill in the morning and I got this shot of this sculpture while we were waiting to go back in the building.  It's like a deconstructed classical nude.  Very cool looking:

When I went home over lunch I got another view of the rickety foundation of the house they're renovating down the street:

After work I rode Columbus to Bay to Van Ness to Greenwich to Octavia to Union to Scott and up into Pacific Heights.  Then Scott to Washington to Arguello to Lake to 8th Ave and into Golden Gate Park.  I got a couple of dim photos of the new California Academy of Sciences with it's lights on!!  I felt like a building paparazzi !!

I came out of the park at Kezar Stadium and then rode Frederick to Clayton to 17th and then home.

    Bike Mileage:
    Today                             31.4
    Week to date                 146.3

  • Thursday, November 8

I headed out Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel to 16th to Vicente.  I stopped and took pics of my favoritest church in town:  Saint Cecilia's:

And one of me in front of it:

I continued down Vicente to the Great Highway and then went up to Cabrillo.  This gorgeous little house is on Cabrillo at 47th Ave(I think).  It's very beach cottagy in appearance and I think the entire garage level is an add on.  The tree in the yard is pretty mature.  This house is likely on it's original site and probably dates from when the area was not built up and dotted with beach cottages.

    And the detail:

I continued up Cabrillo to McAllister to Parker.  I got a nice view of the dome of St. Ignatius:

I continued Golden Gate to Market and into work.

  • Wednesday, November 7

I went home over lunch to see the dogs as I always do.  They're renovating a house down the street, which is good because it's in terrifyingly bad condition.  What gets me is that there's actually people living in this house during the renovation.  I'm not scientician, but it seems to me that this house is teetering precariously over the area they're excavating for the new garage and the clearly crumbling brick foundation doesn't make me feel any better about it.  I hope they manage to shore it up before it falls forward like Britney Spears after a long druggy night:

I rode down Market to work and took a few shots of some buildings at Powell and Market:

After work I headed out Sutter to Presidio to Euclid to Arguello to Cabrillo out to Ocean Beach and then I took the Great Highway down to Sloat and then went Sunset to Lake Merced to Middlefield to Eucalyptus to Ocean and into school where I had forgotten my notes for the quiz we had to take (d'oh!).  After, I took Foerster to Teresita to Fowler to Portola to Corbett and then home.

I've ridden more than 1,000 miles since October 1!

    Bike Mileage:
    Today                             39.8
    Week to date                 114.9
    Month to date                221.0
    Quarter to date            1,016.5

  • Wednesday, November 7

Very, very foggy this morning.  I rode out Corbett to Clayton to Parnassus into Judah and then out to the coast.  Then I came into Golden Gate Park and rode around a bit.  It was very foggy in the park as well:

Here's a pic of me wearing my superfantastic new helmet:

I left the park at 43rd and then rode Cabrillo to 34th up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor and then into the Presidio.  I took Lincoln down to Crissy Field and then Mason to Marina Blvd to Fort Mason and then into Fishermans Wharf and then Columbus into work.

  • Tuesday, November 6

I headed off after work Sansome to Washington and then into Chinatown.  Here are a couple of my nightime shots ... I'm working on it:

And a dark one of me in my super fantastic new helmet:

I headed Washington to Powell to Jackson to Jones to Green. A coworker informed me that our pretty mayor lives at Jones and Green and I wanted to go check out my new neighborhood as soon as he gets his act together and tells me he loves me.  Then I continued Green to Fillmore to Washington to Steiner to Clay to Presidio to Lake to 8th Ave and then into the park.  I came out of the park at 9th Ave and then rode 9th to Judah into Parnassus to Clayton to 17th to Saturn to go vote and then home.

I've added a new feature to my mileage chart.  I'm setting a goal for myself of 10,000 miles on my bike for 2008 which comes out to an average of 27.4 miles a day.  I've multiplied that by the number of days in the 4th quarter to get a goal (which came to 2,520.8 miles) and I'll be keeping track of how my mileage is tracking to meet that goal.  I'm currently a little behind because I took off a week while I was in Hawaii (don't regret it a bit).  Not to worry, I'll catch up!

    Bike Mileage:
    Today                             33.0
    Week to date                  75.1
    Month to date                181.2
    Quarter to date              976.7

    Over(Under) plan           (37.0)

  • Tuesday, November 6

It was very cold this morning so I got all bundled up and headed out Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  Not so much fog this morning, thankfully.  I headed up the Great Highway and rode through Golden Gate Park on JFK to 8th ave.  Then I went 8th Ave to Lake to Arguello and into the Presidio.  Here are a couple of shots of the pretty buildings in the Presidio:

And one of me as well:

I came out of the Presidio at Marina Blvd and followed it to Fort Mason and then to Fishermans Wharf and then up Columbus to work
