Friday morning I came down Market and saw my pal Elaine at the Castro light.  I continued to Laguna to McAllister and stopped at Van Ness for a pic of City Hall:

Looking down McAllister towards the Asian Art Museum and the Federal building on 7th:

I continued on McAllister to Larkin.  This is Sergeant John Macauley Park.  It’s a very pretty park but it has to be fortified like this to keep it from overrun by junkies and the homeless.  Ah, the Tenderloin….

I continued on Larkin to California and stopped for a pic of pretty Grace Cathedral that’s totally Episcopalicious:

    Huntington Park:

I continued on California and stopped at Keary for a pic looking towards Market:

I continued on California to Leidesdorff and into work.

Thursday after work I headed off 2nd to Howard to 11th to Folsom to 15th to Harrison.  I stopped at 18th for some pics of the show stoppin’ Carnivale murals:

I continued on Harrison to 24th to Valencia to Tiffany to San Jose to Monterey.  I stopped at San Jacinto for pics of the gorgeous view:

    Me:

I continued on Monterey into Santa Clara and stopped at Saint Francis for a pic of the view looking towards the ocean:

I continued on Santa Clara to Portola to Claremont to Dewey to Laguna Honda into 7th to Judah to 9th and into Golden Gate Park.  I headed over to the Music Concourse and stopped for pic.

    The De Young:

The California Academy of Sciences.  They have a weekly boozy event on Thursday night.  I saw some woman heading in  and she had a riding crop sucked into her boot.  That’s my kind of science!

I came out of the park at 8th to Cabrillo to Arguello to Turk to Baker to Hayes to Scott to Duboce to Castro to 17th and home for dinner.  Mr. Poe had to work late so I was in charge of dinner.  I made him Carne Adovada enchiladas and I fried corn tortillas to eat with salsa.  I had bean and potato tacos– they weren’t as spectacular as this:

Mr. Poe came home and we had dinner and went to bed.  It was a long day.

Wednesday I came into work Market to 14th to Folsom to 2nd to Market to Sansome.  Over lunch I took my commuter bike to REI which needs a little lovin’ to REI and then I came home on Muni after work.  Thursday morning I rode in Market to 14th to Folsom to 2nd to Market to Sansome and headed home for lunch where I got some pics of the dogs lounging about:

I don’t know about Mimi’s new haircut.  She’s got this bouffant on top of her head that I think makes her look a little like Anne Richards.  I like Ann Richards, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think it’s a good look on either of them:

I headed to the comic book store on my way back to work.

Tuesday after work I headed off Sutter to Steiner and stopped for a pic of pretty St. Ignacius:

I continued on Steiner to Sacramento to Arguello to Cabrillo to Funston and into Golden Gate Park at the Rose Garden.  It hasn’t been a great year for the Rose Garden likely because of the very cool summer.  Here’s hoping next summer will be a little nicer:

    Me:

I headed over to Stow Lake and stopped for a few pics of my beloved Chinese Pavilion:

I took MLK and stopped at the South Windmill which looks fantastic.  Me love it long time:

I took the Great Highway to Taravel and stopped for a blurry pic of the Riptide Bar which is the bluest thing ever around sunset:

I took Taravel to Dewey to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola where I admired the fabulous new bike line between Twin Peaks and Diamond Heights Blvd which significantly reduces the Eek!  factor of riding on Portola.  I continued to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.

Tuesday morning I came into work 17th to Eureka to Market to Laguna to Eddy to Taylor to Post to Kearny to Bush to Sansome.  I had to go to REI over lunch but because of all the Obama hoo-ha SOMA I waited until 3 to head over.  I took Clay to Drumm to Washington to the Embarcadero to Townsend to 7th to Brannon and into REI.  The nice guy there reattached the front light that I am clearly too stupid to manage myself.  Coming home I came up 7th.  I stopped for a nice pic of the lovely US Court of Appeals:

And the amazing, amazing Federal Building which I love more than anything:

    Gorgeous diaphanous structure:

    Unbelievable:

I continued up to Market to Sansome and back to work.

We had work done on the house Thursday, Friday so I worked from home.  He finished up on Monday morning so I headed down Market into work for an afternoon meeting and then I went for a nice ride after work.  I headed off Sansome to Pacific.  This is the view of the Transamerica Pyramid from Sansome and Pacific:

I took Pacific and stopped at Powell for a pic of the cable car.  Picturesque:

I continued on Pacific to Polk to Washington.  I stopped for a pic at Lafayette Park:

I continued on Washington to Webster to Clay to Spruce to Washington and stopped for a pic of the fog rolling into the bay:

This fabulous house doesn’t have fabulous Halloween decorations:

I continued on Washington and into Presidio Terrace:

    Super cute Halloween decorations:

    Even cuter Halloween decorations:

    Me:

I took Arguello to Lake and stopped for a pic of the fabulous deco Maya revival style home at 22nd:

I continued on Lake to 28th to Clement to 34th to Balboa and down to the coast.  I got a nice shot of the sun just starting to set:

    The view looking North:

I took the Great Highway to JFK to Bernice Rodgers to MLK and headed over to the Music Concourse for a shot of the De Young:

I took JFK to Stanyan to Page to Duboce to Castro to 17th to Ord and home for dinner.  I would have ridden a little farther but the bike I was on lacked any kind of lighting and you can’t argue with darkness.  After dinner Mr. Poe and I started working on the Thanksgiving menu (spoiler alert we WILL be deep fryin’ stuff) and then we went to bed.

Monday I managed to make it down to work in the morning Market to 14th to Folsom to 2nd to Market to Sansome and then home at the end of the day up Market.  Which was a complete shit show.  I’m still trying to figure out the best way home but it sure isn’t Market.  I got a nice shot of the Castro from Market and Castro:

Me–  facial hair is on the way out.  Mr. Poe muttered something about moving to a West Virginia trailer park and naming the dog NASCAR and he is my target market:

I headed home for dinner and we went to bed early.  I think I’m all over my flu but I’m still sleeping a crazy amount.  Which has an upside because sleep is bliss.

  • Sunday, October 16, 2011

There hasn’t been a lot of biking the last couple of weeks.  I’ve been pretty crazy busy at work and then I had the flu that seemed to last forever.  I missed the Different Spokes fundraiser at the Lookout which was a double fail first because I slept through it so I didn’t even call to let them know I wasn’t coming to sell raffle tickets (ouch) and second because Nathan showed up to meet me and I wasn’t there (double ouch).

Mr. Poe finally got it on Tuesday and I had to drive down to Fremont to pick him up from work because he couldn’t stop vomiting.  His exact phrase was “I don’t want to be that guy who’s vomiting on BART”.  Let’s all make a pact to stay off of BART for that reason.  It was actually pretty awesome for me because he had thrown a tantrum just a couple of days earlier about how I don’t do anything around the house and treat him like a maid.  Not true!  So the rest of the week was spent listening to him complain and encouraging him to eat.  He was feeling better by the weekend although he’s still not over it.  This should cancel out my slovenliness until Christmas at least.

Sunday I went for a nice ride out to China Camp.  I’d gotten an email from a guy named Peter from London who was coming into town and was wondering what choices he had for rides and after figuring out what he was after I put a ride on the Different Spokes calendar and we went out to China Camp.  Sadly it was just the two of us as the rest of the Different Spokes was drinking beer on another ride.  We didn’t get sun until late in the afternoon but the ride was otherwise really nice.  Here are a couple of pics from China Camp:

We headed home stopping by Mike’s bikes so that Peter could drool over our local trade.  Then we headed over to El Toro in the Mission and ate burritos in Dolores park.  El Toro is fucking awesome.  Maybe it’s the fact that I’d only eaten about 500 calories that day and had ridden 60 miles, but that burrito was the best thing I’d ever eaten.  Ever.  I sent Peter to BART and headed home and got cleaned up and we went to bed early.  Fun day!
