Month: March 2011

I was feeling better by Friday night and have slowly starting putting a dent in the mountain of things I hadn't done all week.  Mr. Poe started feeling better on Saturday and his appetite finally returned.  I skipped my Different Spokes ride on Saturday so we could go to the grocery store and half a rotisserie chicken later he was feeling like his old self.  I headed off in the Afternoon to go visit Mr. Chris downtown so he could take a nap and I saw this pirate ship coming in under the bay.  Ahoy:

I headed home and cooked dinner for us.  Breakfast burritos--  I wasn't in the mood at all to make anything complicated.  We went to bed at 7:30.  It didn't bother me a bit.

Ugh.  It hasn't been a fun week.  My CAT2 ride got rained out on Sunday and Mr. Poe and I both came down with the flu later that day.  I've been working from home and feeling crappy all week but tonight Mr. Poe came home with a 104 degree fever.  Many calls to Kaiser later the consensus is he doesn't have to go to the doctor tonight,  but we're watching him very closely and hoping it doesn't get worse.

PS he's the worst patient ever.

Saturday I led a DSSF ride up to Marshall.   My friend Larry showed up and we had a great day.  The weather was warm and humid--  I kept remarking that it's possible that it's the nicest weather we'll have til October.

I saw deer on Camino Alto!  These are Marin deer and would rather you keep away from their forest:

Here's my bike at the top of Marshall wall.  Now that the shiny shiny has worn off my Cannondale I'm wondering which of my road bikes is going to see more wear.  I love my Trek.  It's very, very comfortable and I was very happy to have a granny gear about 3/4 the way up:

I got a couple of pics on my way down to Tomales Bay:

    Me:

I can personally vouch for the deliciousness of the burritos at Whale of a Deli.   I can't speak for Larry, but my ass was thoroughly kicked the whole way home from Point Reyes Station.  I made it home a little after 5PM and I got cleaned up and went to bed.

The weather kept getting better and better as the day progressed.  I sopped at pretty Ord St. Park on my way home for pics.  It's such a tiny, cute little space and much better when there isn't a homeless person passed out in it:

    My bike:

Friday night I hung out with Nathan and Daniel.  Nathan managed to achieve a level of intoxication that impressed us all.

I got up earlier this morning than I've managed in weeks and got in a nice ride before work.  My commuter is in the shop until Sunday so I rode my Trek.  I love that bike and wonder why I'm not riding it more.  It isn't as fabulous or as fast as my Cannondale but it's such a great bike and I love riding it.  I've thought about commuting on it regularly but it's a little high end for that and it has road pedals that I don't want to swap out because I'd rather commute in road pedals than ride a century in mountain pedals.

I headed off 17th to Eureka to 23rd to Diamond to Diamond Heights to Portola to Twin Peaks.  I got this pic looking west to the Farollons from near the top:

I headed over to the viewing platform and got some pics:

    Me:

    Everybody's favorite antenna:

I continued on Twin Peaks into Clayton to Ashbury to Masonic to Haight to Broderick.  These fabulous Victorians are at Broderick and Fulton:

I continued on Broderick to McAllister to Steiner to Post.  I stopped in Japantown for pic of Peace Plaza:

I continued on Post to Kearny to Bush  to Sansome and into work.  I've got a lot going on today.  I'm taking my bike home at lunch and then meeting up with Nathan and Daniel after work.  I'm looking forward to it and it's gonna be lots of fun.

I headed over to Francisco to Lyon and then went into the Presidio at the Lombard Gate.  I headed up Presidio to Jackson and stopped at Pierce for a view looking over the Marina:

I continued on Jackson to Steiner.  I got a couple of pics of pretty St. Dominic's on Steiner at Bush:

I took Steiner to McAllister.  This is City Hall from McAllister and Van Ness:

I continued on McAllister to Larkin.  There's a Bali exhibit at the Asian Art Museum!  I haven't been there in a very long time and my weekends are booked until Summer.  I'll have to go over lunch.   You can read more about the exhibit here:

City Hall at sunset from Larkin and UN Plaza:

I continued on Larkin to Grove to 8th to Bryant and into REI to drop off my bike for a new chain.  I headed home from there on Muni for dinner.  I walked the dogs and went to bed.  It was a long day and I was beat.

I didn't spend a whole lot of time on the bike on Wednesday.  I came down Market into work and went home for lunch.  It started pouring down rain as I was heading up Market and it didn't look like it was going to end anytime soon so I came back on Muni.  After work I went shopping and then went home for dinner.

This morning was gorgeous.  The rain moved on by about 7am and by the time I left the house everything was starting to dry out and the sun was out.  It has also warmed up quite a bit.  It's going to be a gorgeous day.  I padded my ride in just a little and got a lot of pics.  It was such a pretty morning everything looked good.  I rode 17th to Eureka to Market to 14th to Folsom.  This pretty building is on Folsom between Dore and 9th.  I love everything about it:

    Me:

I continued on Folsom and stopped for a pic at Victoria Manolo Draves park.  They did such a nice job building this park a couple of years ago and it's been maintained beautifully and surprisingly for the neighborhood isn't full of homeless people shooting up:

These buildings are across the street from the park.  Pretty:

I continued on Folsom and stopped at 1st for a pic of the South Financial District:

I continued on Folsom to Main.  I stopped at  Howard for a pic of pretty Millenium Tower:

I continued on Main into Drumm to Sacramento.  This is the view looking down Drumm towards Market from Sacramento:

I continued on Sacramento to Sansome and into work.

I came down Market in the morning and then went home for lunch.  The dogs were being especially adorable and I got a pic of Rufus lounging on the front porch before I headed back to work:

After work I headed off down Market and got a pic looking up Post from Montgomery:

I continued on Market to Geary to Polk to Sutter to Fillmore to Clay to Spruce to Washington where I stopped for a pic of my favorite view of the North Bay:

    Me:

I continued on Washington to Arguello to Lake to 8th and into Golden Gate Park.  I haven't been able to ride in the park since the time changed in November and it was a delight.  I took JFK to Bernice Rodgers to MLK to the Great Highway and headed down the coast.  This is the view of the ocean from around Noriega.  You can see a new storm sliding in:

I continued on the Great Highway to Ulloa to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.  The dogs and I went for a walk and then I went to bed.
