I couldn't get moving in the morning and just came down Market into work.  I had lunch at work but managed a ride after work.  I headed off Sutter to Steiner and stopped to get a pic of pretty St. Dominic's:

I continued on Steiner to Sacramento to Spruce and stopped at Washington and Spruce for a shot of my favorite view of the bay:

I took Washington to Arguello to Lake to 8th and into Golden Gate Park.  I got on JFK and took that to Bernice Rodgers to MLK to the Great Highway and headed down the coast.  I stopped at the foot of Sloat for pics at the beach:

    Me:

I took Sloat to Skyline to Lake Merced to Font to Holloway to Gennessee to Hearst to Edna to Monterey to San Jose to Duncan to Valencia where I saw this guy riding a recumbent in this crazy shell.  It totally looked like a sperm:

I continued on Valencia to 18th to Eureka to 17th to Ord and home for dinner.

The sun came out around lunchtime and it was beautiful in the Castro when I was heading back to work.  The minipark they set up at 17th and Castro has been rebuilt and replanted and it's gotten very popular:

After work I headed off 2nd to Howard.  I noted that they finally seem to be demolishing the building at 6th and Howard that has been derelict since I've lived in California:

I continued on Howard to 11th to Harrison to 23rd to Valencia to Mission to St. Mary's.  I stopped at St. John the Evangelist which I haven't seen in quite a while:

    Lovely detail:

    The view down Marsilly:

I took Marsilly to Bosworth into O'Shaunnessey into Woodside to Laguna Honda into 7th to Irving to 9th and into Golden Gate Park.  I headed over to the Music Concourse and got a pic of the De Young:

    Me:

I got on JFK to 8th to Clement to Arguello to Euclid to Presidio to Post to Laguna to Market to 17th to Ord and home for dinner.

I predictably wasn't able to drag my ass out of bed very early this morning so I went on a much shorter bike ride into work.  It was very cold this morning and today is supposed to be the warmest day of the week.  Which sucks.  I took 17th to Eureka to 18th to Harrison to Bryant  to the Embarcadero.  This is the Bay Bridge from Bryant and the Embarcadero:

    Me:

I continued on the Embarcadero and stopped when I saw this.  It's called the Raygun Gothic Rocket and you can read more about it here.  It's a tribute to kitschy 40's and 50's sci fi.  Love it:

The Ferry Building at an interesting angle:

I continued on The Embarcadero to Mission to Main to California to Sansome and into work.

Sunday I led a Different Spokes ride over to Fairfax.  I had stuff to do in the late afternoon so I couldn't do a longer ride.  Erik and Hugh showed up and we had a really good time.  It started off foggy and cold but the weather was much improved after we got north of Camino Alto and it was pretty the rest of the day.

    Me in Perry's

Erik at the Golden Gate Bridge on the way home:

    Hugh:

The fog pulling away from the bridge:

I went home and had lunch and switched bikes so I could wear mountain shoes and then headed over to the Sports Basement in the Presidio for training ride leader training for the Lifecycle.  All two and a half hours of it which seems gratuitously long but it was great to see a bunch of people I hadn't seen since the ride.

    Luscious Larry L'Italien:

    Buz, Bob, and Beau"

I made it home a litte after seven and had dinner and watched Scooby Doo-- The Mytery Begins on television.  It was terrible.  It had all the plot of the half hour cartoons but it was two hours long.  Ouch.

Saturday was the Different Spokes jersey ride but I couldn't drag my ass out of bed and I skipped it.  I lounged around and watched a movie on Youtube in the morning and then we headed over to Nathan's and went to the Asian Art Museum to see the Shanghai exhibit.  Which was amazing.  It was a historical review of Shanghai from the end of the Opium Wars to today as most told through mass produced imagery (posters, woodcuts) although their were also a few canvases, scrolls, and textiles.  It's very, very interesting and one of the best exhibits I've ever seen there.  Loved it.  They didn't let us take pictures of anything but this, which is from the Shanghai today part:

Nathan came over for dinner and we watched a few Futurama episodes and then he went home and we went to bed.

After work Friday I headed off Sutter to Fillmore.  I paused to mourn the loss of our beloved Shu Uemura store on Fillmore which closed because the brand has pulled out of the US market.  I'll miss their pretty displays and their cleansing oil which removes every last trace of waterproof sunscreen.  You can still buy their stuff online but if I have to shop online anyway, I'll probably go for Jill Stuart:

I continued on Fillmore to Clay to Locust to Washington and into Presidio Terraces which is a gorgeous private neighborhood off of Arguello which, when it opened in 1906, proclaimed itself as San Francisco's first all white neighborhood.  It has beautiful homes despite the bigot part:

This home is new and in the Santa Fe style and I am not a fan.  Not a fan at all.  Don't get me wrong, I love the architectural diversity in San Francisco but the whole point of the Santa Fe style is how it fits in with the landscape and this house neither fits in with landscape nor its neighbors and it just looks off.  What were they thinking??

The beautiful synagogue on Arguello is in the background:

I took Arguello to Lake to 8th and into Golden Gate Park.  I got on JFK and then headed over to lovely Stow Lake to look at the Chinese Pavilion:

    Me:

I got on MLK to the Great Highway.  This is the beach chalet which is such a pretty building and the food is good as well.  It's got a great view of the beach and it's sheltered which is nice on a summer like the one we've had:

I went back into Golden Gate Park at JFK and stopped at the North Windmill for pics:

I took JFK to the Panhandle to Stanyan to Page to Scott to Duboce to Castro to 17th to Ord and home for dinner.  I was really, really beat.

I didn't go home for lunch today because I had to go run errands in Union Square.  The fog cleared off around noon and it's gorgeous.  I took some pics as I walked over to Macy through Chinatown::

After I finished shopping I got a few comics and Chipotle and headed back to work.

It was foggy and wet yet again this morning.  Hooray!  Just what I wanted.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came down the Great Highway and stopped at the foot of Sloat for a pic.  It was foggy but not too cold at the beach:

I took Sloat to Skyline to Lake Merced to Font to Holloway to Harold to Ocean to Phelan to Judson to Foerster to Hearst to Edna to Monterey.  For the first time ever, I took the ramp from Monterey to San Jose rather than cutting through Glen Park and it saved me a lot of time although there isn't much shoulder on the ramp and I don't know how I would feel about it in a lot of traffic.  I took San Jose to Duncan to Valencia to 17th.  Although I'm not completely behind the color scheme, I love this glamorous Victorian on South Van Ness at 17th.  It's sadly next door to a gas station but what can you do??

    Love the detail:

I continued on 17th to Kansas into Townsend.  This is the fabulous new bike lane on Townsend:

I continued on Townsend.  This is the pretty building at 4th and Townsend with Safeway on the 1st floor.  It would be a nice building to live in when I'm older.  Because old people like to go to the grocery store every day.

I continued on Townsend to 2nd to Market to Sansome and into work.

We got a little sun in the afternoon but the fog was rolling in by the time I headed home from work.  I took Columbus to North Point to Van Ness to Francisco to Laguna to Chestnut to Divisadero to Jefferson to Scott to Marina into Mason.  I got a shot of the fog shrouded Golden Gate Bridge from the lagoon at Crissy Field:

I continued on Mason to Crissy Field to Lincoln into Camino Del Mar.  This is the view up 30th from Camino Del Mar.  I love Seacliff.  It's such a pretty, orderly neighborhood:

I continued on Camino Del Mar up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor.  I stopped for a pic of the Holocaust Memorial.  So very, very moving.  It also needs a cleaning:

The Palace of the Legion of Honor:

    Me:

I headed down to 34th to Balboa and down to the coast.  The beach was surprisingly calm for all the fog in the Presidio:

I headed down the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at JFK and then followed that to the Panhandle to Stanyan to Page to Scott to Duboce to Castro to 17th to Ord and home for dinner.  I was very tired and went to bed early.  I think it was before 8PM.  I'm a wild man.

I rode by city hall on my way home for lunch which had the expected hurlyburly waiting on the Prop 8 ruling:

The bigots have made great strides in sign making and, although I can't agree with their positions on anything else, I heartily approve of their choices of font:

The pro marriage forces were a little weak in the sign department, but had much better highlights.  This guy must be going to same place I do:

When I got home the news that the stay on marriages would expire next week.  I think this is terrific news for just about everybody and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's not going to be met by yet another injunction and that America can move on and start focusing on actual threats to all of us.  Of course I'm talking about the Gingers or, as they are know in Germany, Das Feuercrotchen.
