It was freezing cold again.  I’m looking forward to the fog coming back because that keeps it from getting quite this cold.  I had thought about going through the Mission this morning but it’s pretty much downhill all the way from my house to Valencia and then there are a lot of lights on Valencia and yesterday I didn’t warm up until I got to College Hill. Brrr.  So I took Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and then got on Geary to 34th and up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor.  It was very cold and very clear and I had a nice view of the sunrise:

I got on Camino Del Mar and took that into Lincoln and rode in the Presidio.  The gas leak from yesterday was fixed and I wasn’t detoured.  I got a nice view of the Golden Gate Bridge from Lincoln at around the National Cemetery:

I came out of the Presidio at the Lombard Gate and took Chestnut to Laguna to Francisco to Van Ness to North Point to Columbus.  This is the view of the Financial District from North Beach:

After work I headed off Columbus to North Point to Van Ness to Francisco to Octavia to Chestnut to Lyon and into the Presidio at the Lombard Gate.  Lincoln was closed because of a gas leak above the stables so I was directed up Park which was fine with me as I hadn’t been up there in a while.  There are some great buildings on Kobbe:

I made my way over to Washington and stopped at Immigrant Point for pics.  You can see how far the Golden Gate Bridge traffic is backed up because of the Bay Bridge Closure.  I told them they shouldn’t have gone with “Seldomsnap” brand cables:

I tried to go down Wedermeyer to check out the construction at the spooky hospitals but that road is totally closed and they made me turn around.  So I got back on Washington and came out of the Presidio at Arguello and took it to Cabrillo to 8th and into Golden Gate Park.  I went through the Music Concourse and came out of the park at 9th and then took Judah to 7th into Laguna Honda to Woodside to Portola to Twin Peaks to see the sunset.  I wasn’t disappointed.  It was spectacular:

I came back down Twin Peaks to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.  Mr. Poe is convinced that Rufus can tell time because he started getting very excited at 5 minutes or so 7PM (when I get home).  I think it’s probably more likely that his dinner is timed with my arrival and he can see that he’s about to eat.

It was very, very cold this morning with a strong wind coming from the north.  At least it wasn’t raining.  I headed off 17th to Eureka to 18th to Valencia to Mission to Silver to Alemeny to Sagamore to Brotherhood to Lake Merced to John Muir to the Great Highway.  Was it every cold on the Great Highway.  I trudged my way north and stopped at the foot of Sloat to catch a shot of the sunrise:

It was cold this morning!  Very clear and very cold.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came down the Great Highway which was a big mistake because it was still very, very dark and there were shifting mini sand dunes on the road.  Eek!  I continued on to Skyline to Lake Merced to Font to Holloway to Harold to Ocean to Phelan to Judson to Foerster to Hearst to Edna to Monterey to Diamond to Wilder to Arlington to Randall to San Jose to Duncan to Valencia to 23rd.  This was the view down Mission from 23rd this morning:

The clocks get turned back on Saturday night so this is the last week for a number of my after work rides.  I try to avoid Golden Gate Park, the Presidio, and the Palace of the Legion of Honor at night because they are poorly lit and kind of dangerous on a bike.  Lake Merced is also kind of a nightmare in the dark but I haven’t been riding there much after work so I’m not so broken up about it.  Next week will begin a distinct lack of variety in my evening rides.  Still, it’s better than not riding at all.

I stayed off the bike on Sunday and ran errands with Mr. Poe.  We went to Costco and finally got a membership.  We got a DVD player for the kitchen and a new heater for the guest room and a couple of food items and a new dog bed for the dining room.  Rufus has pretty much destroyed the old one and Mr. Poe wanted a new one before Thanksgiving.  When we got it in the house little Ashley Jr. took one look at it and declared “Mine!  All mine!”  and barked and snarled at any dog or human who dared come and see what the shiny new thing was.  Of course, as we all know, Ashley Jr. does not run the house.  As soon as he got out of the bed to go find a toy Mimi hopped on it and peed all over it.  “Enjoy your bed you little shit!” she said.  Thankfully everything is machine washable and we were pretty sure that somebody was gonna pee on it before the day was out but we were all surprised to see that it only too 10 minutes.

I headed out 17th to Eureka to 18th to Valencia to Mission to Richland to Arlington to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey into Santa Clara to Portola to Claremont to Merced to Hernandez to Ulloa to Sydney to Portola to Twin Peaks and up to the viewing platform.  Gorgeous, gorgeous sunrise:

I came down Twin Peaks to Clayton to Parnassus.  The temperature must have dropped ten degrees from Clayton and 17th to Cole and Parnassus.  The marine layer is really compressed.  It was kind of neat.  I zipped up my jacket and continued on Cole to Waller to Stanyan and into Golden Gate Park.  I came out the Arguello Gate where some biker was asking me about my bike and commenting on how cool it was and described it as a “museum piece”.  All true.  My bike is so, so much cooler than me.  I took Arguello into the Presidio and then got on Washington to Lincoln and came out of the Presidio at the Lombard Gate and then took Lyon to Chestnut to Octavia to Francisco to Polk to North Point.  I love the Fontana Towers.  Such great buildings:

Saturday we headed up to Olema Valley and down to Stinson in a climbing filled ride with Different Spokes.  It was sunny in the Castro when we left but it soon became cold and incredibly foggy and that lasted until we were across the Golden Gate Bridge.  But when we got down to Sausalito it was sunny and gorgeous again.  This is the view back to San Francisco from Sausalito:

We headed home and then I got cleaned up and had dinner.  I made Mr. Poe cinnamon rolls for Sunday breakfast and then I went to bed.
