We got a pretty slow start because we were all up so late.  We dropped Mr. Poe off at the grocery store and we went to the Mission Dolores to look around.  It's a beautiful church.  This is the old mission that's built of mud brick and stucco:

    Outside the old church:

This is an interesting mosaic we saw on one of the walls.  It's very modern:

Aunt Sheila and Athena in the garden:

The Mission cemetery is really beautiful.  It used to be much larger but a large part of it became a school playground.  Cue horror music:

    .

    Athena in the cemetery:

The more modern Mission church from the cemetery:

Mission Dolores is not my favorite church in the city but it is very pretty and has a lot of gorgeous details.  The windows are spectacular:

    And there are incredible mosaics:

And a lot of gorgeous wood carvings as well:

    The nave of the church:

    The enormous dome:

We picked up Mr. Poe at the supermarket and went home and had a little lunch and then headed over to the Palace of the Legion of Honor with Athena's friend Steve to go see at the new Faberge, Cartier, and Lalique exhibit which you can read more about here.  It was a nice exhibit but kind of tiring because with luxury objects you really need to look at the detail to appreciate them so we were pretty beat by the time we were done.  Here we are the museum, less Steve because he was taking the picture:

The Marin Headlands from the grounds:

We went home and rested and Mr. Poe made a light dinner and then we headed down to Chinatown to catch the dregs of the Chinese New Year Parade.  Then we went to Harveys in the Castro for more cocktails and then bed,  Another long day.

It was pouring down rain for most of the day so I just came down Market into work in the morning.  It cleared off a little around lunchtime and I got a few pics on my way home for lunch. The view up Market from Noe:

The view down Market from Noe

After work I headed home because my favoritest cousin Athena and her Mom were staying with us for the weekend.  They were joined by two of my other cousin and we all went out for a boozy, boozy dinner.  We're all Irish Catholics don't judge.  Aunt Sheila, Athena, and Molly:

Nathan took the rest of the pics.  He's got the greatest camera and is my court photographer:

    Ashley looking Angelic:

    .

Rufus loved having all the people over but was in perpetual time out for the entire evening:

My little lady looking uncharacteristically pleasant:

    Me in the kitchen:

We went to Big Lantern, a restaurant that I've been visiting so much that they think I'm stalking one of the waiters.  Molly's sister Liz:

    Sheila

    Hello gorgeous!:

    Here we are together:

I'm guessing this was just after I'd said something pretty raunchy:

We didn't make it home until after 11 which was waaaaayyy past my bedtime.  Long day.

The weather was awful in the morning so I slept in and just came down Market into work.  I headed home over lunch and got a little wet but not too bad.  It was wet and blustery:

    Me on Market:

After work the weather was clearing.  I headed off down Howard Street. I could see a lot of ominous clouds but it never got uglier than a sprinkle:

I continued on Howard to 11th to Harrison to 25th to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Circular to Marston and into City College.  I came out on Phelan and then took Ocean to Lee to Holloway to Font to Lake Merced.  The sun is finally staying up long enough for me to go around poorly lit Lake Merced so I took John Muir to Skyline to the Great Highway to Fulton to La Playa to Cabrillo to 8th to Lake to Arguello to Clay to Fillmore to Post to Laguna to Market to 17th to Ord and home for dinner.  Mr. Poe had to work late so I had the dogs by myself which they weren't so happy about because they don't like my cooking.  And they will eat garbage.  How can that be??

On my way back from lunch I noted confusing graffiti on a window on Market between 6th and 7th.  WTF??

It was painted on the wall of an art gallery that's closing.  They only had these two aircraft models left in the studio.  Love love love them.  Mr Poe would kill me if I brought one of them home:

You can see me in the background of this DC8:

This building has the Islamic Society offices on the top floor.  I didn't realize that they had this gorgeous mural on the side of the building.  Very nice:

While I was taking these pictures I noticed this guy walking down Market Street wearing soccer shorts, no underwear, and a shockingly large penis.  From the looks of him I think he could be all yours for a surprisingly low price.  I didn't get a pic.  Didn't have my wide angle lens.  Ahhh Civic Center.

After work I headed off Sutter to Fillmore to Clay to Arguello to Lake to 23rd to Cabrillo to 47th to Fulton and down to the ocean.  The sunset was very pretty:

    Me at the beach:

I headed down the Great Highway to Taravel to Dewey into Laguna Honda to Clarendon to Twin Peaks to 17th to Ord and home for dinner.

I had SO MUCH TROUBLE getting out of bed this morning.  But I managed to because we've got rain a'comin' so I want to get in as much riding before then.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and then got on Geary to 34th and up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor.  I'd missed it:

Me at the Palace of the Legion of Honor:

I came down Camino Del Mar to Lake.  This is the view looking east.  Gorgeous:

I continued on Lake to Arguello to California to Palm.  This is Palm in the morning:

This building interested me because it's so much older than all of the buildings around it and it's at least six units in a neighborhood of mostly single family homes that I think it was probably moved to it's present position from somewhere else, maybe the Western Addition because some of the buildings were moved instead of being razed to make way for development in the 50's and 60's:

I continued on Palm to Euclid to Presidio to Post.  Japantown looked pretty as always:

I continued on Post to Kearny to Bush to Sansome and into work.

  • Tuesday, February 3

The weather was unbelievable all day.  Warm and sunny.  Gorgeous.  There's a storm coming in on Thursday so I'm enjoying this sun while it lasts.  This was the view down Market while I was coming back to work from lunch:

After work I headed off down Howard.  St. Joseph's looked pretty and a little tragic as it always does:

I continued on Howard to 11th to Harrison to 23rd to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey into Santa Clara into Vicente to Wawona to Taravel to Dewey into Laguna Honda into 7th to Irving to 9th and into Golden Gate Park to MLK to  Middle to JFK to 8th to Lake to Arguello to Clay to Broderick to Post to Steiner to Golden Gate to Laguna to Market to 17th to Ord and home for dinner.

It was nice this morning.  Cool and hazy.  It's going to be another gorgeous day.  Take that, winter!  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came down the Great Highway and stopped north of Lake Merced for a picture looking south:

I continued on the Great Highway to Skyline to Lake Merced to Winston to Moncada to Urbano to Pico to Ashton to De Montefort to Miramar to Eastwood to San Ramon to Plymouth where I noted that the trees are starting to come into bloom:

I continued on Plymouth to Greenwood to Hazelwood to Staples to Foerster to Monterey to Diamond to Wilder to Arlington to Randall to San Jose to Duncan to Valencia.  This is 16th at Valencia.  I love this building:

I continued on Valencia to Market.  This is the view down Market from Montgomery:

After work I headed off up Sutter.  This is the view looking west from Kearny:

I slept in a little this morning so I went on a bit of a shorter ride.  I should have gotten my ass out of bed because it was gorgeous.  I headed off Corbett to Clayton to Ashbury to Frederick to Masonic to Page to Baker to Fulton.  This is the view down towards Civic Center from Fulton and Scott:

I continued on Polk to North Point to the Embarcadero to Washington to Battery to Sacramento to Sansome and into work.

  • Sunday, February 1

We went out to dinner with the Fangs and Mr. Chris on Saturday night to the Big Lantern which, of course, is my very favorite restaurant these days.  We all met up at Mr. Chris's to booze it up a bit before heading to the restaurant.  I got a few pics on the way.  This is the Museum of Modern Art with the Pac Bell building rising behind it:

    Hello gorgeous!

This building is going up at Hawthorne and Howard.  I have no idea how tall it's going to be but it may have many more floors:

This is the new Blu tower that is either just finished or about to be finished.  I'm not crazy about it.  But you can read more about it here

I had a little trouble getting out of bed on Sunday morning due to the previous night's boozing so I rode Corbett to Clayton to Ashbury to Frederick to Masonic to Presidio to Halleck to Old Mason and over to the Sports Basement for my AIDS Lifecycle training ride.  The ride was being led by Bill Henry this week and he's both super cute and super nice.  My role was a mixture of pointing and sweeping as it usually is.

I took a few pics while the group was warming up.  To YMCA.  Wilfredo brought speakers and music.  Seriously.

    Sandra, Annette and Sue:

I left with the fastest riders and then rode with them until the turn on Tiburon Boulevard.  I didn't recognize one of them at first because I was riding behind him.  I realized by the time I was on the bike path that it was someone I really don't like.  It was the ride leader who chewed one of my friends, who was also a ride leader, during a ride last year over his riding style in front of a big group of people which was totally uncalled for and then followed up with Ben who was leading the ride and then followed up with Julie at the AIDS Foundation.  What a fucking mess.  Anyway, this friend of mine isn't ride leading this season because of this and he was super nice and also the best mechanic we've ever had on a training ride.  So I was happy when I it came time to point at the turn on Tiburon Boulevard and I could leave this asshole to his douche baggery.  I felt sorry for the other guy we were riding with.  I pointed until I was relieved and then I headed on to the stop.  Where there were tons of people!  Which is nice because I'm usually way ahead or way behind most of the riders.  I ran into my friend Stephanie:

I didn't stay long because I had another intersection to point at so I headed off down Paradise Blvd.  I was in the sun pointing directions at Trestle Glen for about an hour and got really tired and really crabby.  I hope I kept that to myself.  We got done at about 2 and I rode home and Mr. Poe made me lunch.  Then I took a shower and walked Rufus for an hour and then went home for dinner and went to bed.  I was beat.
