I thought I was going to miss the rain this morning but no such luck.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came down the Great Highway and took Skyline to Lake Merced to Font where the rain went from a light drizzle to a heavier one.  I continued on Font to Holloway to Harold to Ocean to Phelan to Judson to Foerster to Monterey to Diamond to Wilder to Arlington to Randall to San Jose to Duncan to Valencia.  This was the wet scene at Valancia at 23rd:

    Me looking dewy:

I continued on Valencia to Market.  Still very wet:

I continued on Market.  I saw a hot Asian guy kicking some homeless looking guy's ass in front of Walgreens at 9th St but the security guard broke it up before it got bloody.  I continued on Market to Sansome and into work.

  • Thursday, January 22

It was super wet in the morning so instead of riding I came into work at 7.  It slowly dried out as the day progressed.  When I went home for lunch I even saw some sun!  I can prove it:

I left work early and headed off Howard to 11th to Harrison to 23rd to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Circular to Marston and into City College and then Phelan to Geneva to Bayshore to Guadalupe Canyon Parkway.  The sun was starting to set and the sky looked beautiful against the mountains:

I took Guadalupe Canyon Parkway into East Market to San Pedro to Washington to 87th to John Daly to Park Plaza to Lake Merced to John Muir to Skyline to the Great Highway and up the coast.  This is the view of the last speck of the sunset from the Great Highway:

I continued up the Great Highway to Fulton to La Playa to Cabrillo into McAllister to Palmer to Golden Gate to Baker to Hayes to Scott to Duboce to Castro to 17th to Ord and home for dinner.  Mr. Poe had to work late so I made him bacon grilled cheese for dinner again.  I fried it in bacon drippings instead of butter.  I thought it looked nasty but Mr. Poe really enjoyed it and the dogs seemed fixated on it.

It was a kind of wet on and off all day.  After work I headed off up Sutter,  This is the view looking west from Kearny:

This is the view from Grant:

Me at Grant and Sutter.  I don't know about you, but on my monitor my skin looks smurf blue.  Bring out your dead!

I continued up Sutter to Fillmore to Clay to Walnut to Washington to Arguello to 23rd to Cabrillo to 47th to Fulton to the Great Highway.  I came down the coast and rode Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.  I spent much of the evening trying to figure out why my computer wouldn't connect with the City College server so that I could upload my homework.  I had to get Nathan to load it for me because I was locked out at home.  Mr. Chris spent half an hour trying to troubleshoot it with me.  We finally figured out that my firewall had added the servers ISP to it's deny list for no good reason and didn't tell me about it.  The project I was working on can be found here if you want to see it.  Originally it had a much brighter pink background but my instructor wanted more contrast.

The weather's a changin' in San Francisco today.  It's a little cooler and much more humid as a weak storm system moves through.  I've been loving the weather we've been having but I feel kind of selfish about because we need the rain.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and then got on Geary to 34th and up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor.  This is the Holocost Memorial created by Pop Art Sculptor George Segal.  I think this piece is very evocative and one of the things I like about it is the way the rough texture of the figures gives it a throw-away performance art kind of feel.  It keeps getting defaced with swastica's which I don't get at all because San Francisco is not exactly a hotbed of white supremecy and I can't imagine that bigot are making the trip into the city to deface it.

This is the Pax Jerusalemme piece in the center of the parking lot that I have a love hate relationship with.  Today it wasn't bothering me so much:

I got on Camino Del Mar to Lake to Arguello to Clay.  These are some of the pretty homes on Clay:

    Me on Clay:

I continued on Clay to Fillmore to Pacific to Powell to Jackson and through Chinatown which is so neat in the morning and then Montgomery to Clay to Sansome and into work.

  • Tuesday, January 20

I got a nice shot of the new Federal building on Mission St. with the Oddfellow's Temple in the forground on my way home for lunch.  It's juxtaposition-licious:

And I got a nice shot of the Castro Theater on my way back to work.  I love the freshenin' it got for the Milk movie:

After work I headed off Sansome to Jackson to Davis to drop off my laundry and then continued on to Broadway to the Embarcadero to Howard.  This imposing building is not my favorite but it's got some nice angles and looks interesting at dusk:

The view down Howard from 3rd at sunset:

    Me on Howard and 3rd:

St. Joseph's at 11th.  This building looks so sad and forgotten in the daylight but at dusk it's gorgeous.  Like Madonna:

I continued on Howard to 11th to Harrison to 23rd to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Circular To Marston and into City College and then Phelan to Ocean to Lee to Holloway to Font to Lake Merced to Middlefield to Ocean to Clearfield to Yorba to Crestlake to Wawona to 30th to Vicente to 17th to Taravel to Dewey into Laguna Honda into 7th to Hugo to 3rd to Frederick to Stanyon to Waller to Masonic and then up the very, very steep hill to Vista Terrace to Roosevelt to 17th and then home for dinner.

"The Amazing Spider Man" is one of my favorite comic books.  It comes out three times a month!  And is difficult to keep up with.  It's funny and fast paced and that's why I like it so much.  Peter Parker is a complete loser in his non costumed life.  Here's his best friend Harry asking him if he's gay.  Genius:

This is the cover of the next issue.  Spoiler alert:  no date for Peter:

    Love this book.

I managed to get out of the house a few minutes early.  I headed off 17th to Eureka to 18th to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey to Ridgewood to Flood to Hazelwood to Greenwood to Plymouth to Wildwood to Faxon to De Montefort to Ashton to Pico to Urbano to Moncada to Cerritos to Winston to Lake Merced to Skyline to the Great Highway.  I came up the coast and it was a beautiful morning.  I got a shot of the Marin Headlands with a freighter headed in:

I turned into Golden Gate Park at JFK.  This is the North Windmill against the rising sun:

I followed JFK to the Panhandle to Baker.  This is me at Baker and Oak:

I continued on Baker to Page.  There are a number of fabulous Victorians on Page.  These are between Laguna and Octavia:

I continued on Page to Market.  San Francisco has an interesting collection of vintage streetcars from all over the world that service the F line from the Castro to Fisherman's Wharf.  You can read more about the collection here.  This Peter Witt tram is from Milan:

This Streamliner model is from Kansas City:

I continued down Market and into work.

It was a gorgeous day again.  I'll take it.  I think it's going to cool off tomorrow night but we've had a gorgeous week.  This was the view looking up Montgomery Street from Market while I was coming back from lunch:

After work I headed up Sansome.  This was the view up Pine:

I continued up Sansome to Sutter to Fillmore to Clay to Walnut to Washington to Arguello to 8th and into Golden Gate Park.  I went through the Music Concourse and came out of the park into the Sunset at 9th.  I took it to Judah to 7th to Laguna Honda to Dewey to Taravel to Wawona to Vicente into Santa Clara into Monterey to Diamond to Wilder to Arlington to Randall to San Jose to Duncan to Valencia to 18th to Eureka to 17th and home for dinner.  I ordered a bunch of bike gear and it was all waiting for me when I got home so I'm pretty much set for the season.

I slept in a bit and got a late start but I was able to get a short ride in before work.  I headed off Corbett to Clayton to Parnassus to Cole to Waller to Stanyon and into the Park at JFK.  I came out the Arguello Gate and took Arguello into the Presidio and then I took Washington to Lincoln.  This is the Golden Gate Bridge from Washington and Lincoln:

  • Sunday, January 18

I got up way early for my Lifecycle ride so that I could put in a few miles before the meat time.  I headed off 17th to Eureka to 18th to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to San Jose to Diamond to Monterey to Ridgewood to Flood to Hazelwood to Greenwood to Plymouth to Wildwood to Faxon to De Montefort to Ashton to Head to Holloway to Font to Lake Merced to John Muir to Skyline to the Great Highway and up the coast.  I stopped bu the Cliff House for some pics of the beach:

I continued on Steiner to Union to Pierce to Greenwich to Lyon and into the Predidio and then took Letterman to Lincoln to Haddock to Mason and into the Sports Basement where we waited for our riders to show up.  We had 62 riders!

Thomas and Annette back at the Sports Basement:

I went and got Chinese food and then headed home.  I had to get cleaned up in a hurry because we had a bunch of people over to celebrate Daniel's birthday.  Daniel is one of my favoritest people.  It was a heck of a party.  Mr. Poe made Chinese food and all had lots of fun.  Here's the birthday boy:

I was in bed by 9.  It was a loooong day.
