Month: December 2008

  • Friday, December 26

I took these pictures of Mimi yesterday while she was transfixed by a thunderstorm outside.  She’s my little angel:

We headed off to the zoo in the morning.  So much fun.  So many cool animals:

    Bored looking bear…..

    Hung over looking kangaroos….

Polar bear also looking hung over.

Must have been a hell of a party…

The penguins never seem to stop disco dancin’

This monkey was 1) wearing warm blanket, 2) reading a magazine, 3) drinking a beverage, and 4) giving me the evil side eye when she caught me chuckling at her…..

I love Prairie Dogs.  The rednecks of the rodent world:

    The Childrens zoo:

    Hello gorgeous!

    Creepy red eyed duck:

This is the original entrance building for the zoo.  It’s in deplorable condition and literally falling apart.  Such a shame.  It deserves better:

When we were leaving we saw this awesome building with a glamorous chartreuse panda paint job.  Me likey!

We had my frinds Ian and Tia over for dinner and it was lots of fun.  Christmas rocks!

  • Thursday, December 25

We had lots of fun at Christmas.  WIlfredo and Mike, Nathan and Daniel Fang, Russ and Kurt came over for a lavish feast concocted by Mr. Poe.  Nathan took the pictures and they turned out great.

    Daniel looked the festivest:

Nathan loves my little lady Mimi and he took many pics of her:

    Ashley sat in everybody’s lap.

Russ and Mike at the end of the evening:

Me so full of food that my mouth no longer closes:

  • Tuesday, December 23

It was wet and unpleasant in the morning and with Mr. Poe home for vacation I had a hard time getting out of the house in time to ride in the morning so I just came down Market into work.

After work I headed off Sansome to Washington to Columbus to North Point to Van Ness to Francisco to Laguna to Chestnut to Lyon and into the Presidio. I headed over the Golden Gate Bridge.  Usually we have to ride on the ocean side of the bridge but as it was early, I had to go on the bay side of the bridge.  Full of pedestrians but unusual views I don’t usually get.  This is a creepy building at the foot of the bridge on the Marin side in Fort Baker. It’s so sinister:

    More glamour from Fort Baker

I headed up to the top of Marin Headlands.  Fantastic views:

The Golden Gate was named by John Fremont but he gave it the fabulous Latin name Chrysopolae.  Love it.

    More glamour views:

Rodeo Beach from the top of Ike Turner Hill:

    Me on Ike Turner Hill:

    The Bridge from Conzelman:

I wanted to ride a little more but it started raining so I went home for snacks.

After work I headed of Sansome to Jackson to Davis to drop off my dry cleaning and then up Broadway where I got a nice shot of the Transamerica Pyramid:

I continued up Broadway and got another shot of the Pyramid at Columbus:

I continued on Columbus to North Point to Van Ness to Francisco to Laguna to Chestnut to Lyon and into the Presidio.  I got on Lincoln to Storey.  These are some of the gorgeous buildings on Storey in the Presidio:

I continued on Storey to Ruckman to Ralston to Kobbe to Washington.  I got a few nice shots of the blustery afternoon from Immigrant Point:

Looking through the trees towards the Richmond:

    Me at Immigrant Point:

    Gorgeous Sky:

I continued on Washington to Wedermeyer where I stopped to note the progress of the conversion of the spooky hospital in the Presidio into luxury condos.  Which totally sounds like the plot to a slasher flick.  Which is why Mr. Poe and I won’t be moving into the room where the sexy teens died a hundred years ago tonight.  They’re demolishing the two newer wings of the hospital to make the project smaller which, apparently was a requirement made by the neighbors who were nervous about traffic.

I came out of the Presidio at 15th Ave and took Lake to Arguello to Turk to Central to McAllister to Baker to Page to Scott to Duboce to Castro to 17th to Ord and home for dinner.  We headed over to REI to pick up my commuter bike after dinner.  It required a LOT more work than I was hoping it was going to need.  I’m prepping myself for sticker shock because my road bike goes in next month and everything for that is twice what the commuter bike costs.  Ouch!

  • Monday, December 22

It was very wet when I got up this morning so I got a bit of a late start.  I headed off Corbett to Clayton to Ashbury to Frederick to Cole to Waller to Stanyon and into Golden Gate Park at JFK.  I took JFK to Bernice Rodgers to La Playa to the Great Highway and down the coast.  I stopped at the foot of Sloat for Pics.  The view looking North to Marin:

    Looking South:

    Me:

I continued on the Great Highway to Skyline to Lake Merced to Winston to Cerritos to Moncada to Urbano to Pico to Ashton to De Montefort to Miramar to Ocean to Phelan to Judson to Foerster to Monterey to Diamond to Wilder to Arlington to Randall to San Jose to Duncan to Valencia to 14th to Mission.  This building is going up at 10th and Mission.  I love it.  It’s going to be family housing.  I think it’s going to be fabulous:

This the the Federal building at 8th and Mission that I can’t get enough of.  Gorgeous from any angle!

This is the view down Mission from 6th.  Getting less sketchy every day:

I continued on Mission to 2nd to Market to Sansome and into work.

  • Saturday, December 20

In the morning I headed off 17th to Eureka to 18th to Valencia to Tiffany to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Circular and into City College for my final.  Which was incredibly hard.  Yuck.  After I took Judson to Geneva to Bayshore into Airport to South Airport to McDowell to Millbrae to watch aircraft taking off.  There were a bunch of 747′s taking off as I was coming down Airport and they were taking off right over my head and they were enormous.  It was awesome.  United 747:

    Air France 777

I headed up Millbrae Ave.  This is the Bart station at Millbrae.  It’s gorgeous:

I took El Camino Real back which I dont’ think I’d done before.  It was very interesting.  There’s a lot to see.  We’ve had a bunch of rain but San Bruno Moutain is still kind of brown:

I stopped at Cypress Lawn which is a big cemetery in Colma.  It’s got a lot of great architecture and would be a super fun destination if it weren’t for all the mourners:

The gate is from 1894.  I thought this cemetery was a lot younger than that:

I continued on El Camino Real to San Pedro to Washington to 87th to Park Plaza to John Daly to Lake Merced to John Muir to Skyline to the Great Highway.  It was very clear and I could see as far as the Farallons:

    Me on the Great Highway:

I continued up the Great Highway to Point Lobos to Geary.  This is the Holy Virgin Cathedral on Geary which looks so pretty in nice weather:

I continued on Geary to 23rd to Cabrillo to Arguello to McAllister to Palmer to Golden Gate to Scott to Haight to Pierce to Waller to Steiner into Sanchez to Market to 17th to Ord and home.  Fun day.

  • Friday, December 19

It was wet and miserable in the morning so I just came down Market into work.  It was looking a little nicer when I went home for lunch but it got increasingly gorgeous as the day wore on.

After work I headed up Columbus.  This is a Bank of America branch on Columbus at Stockton.  At first glance it’s nice but not spectacular.

But check out the detail.  Swank!

I continued up Columbus to North Point to Van Ness to Francisco to Laguna to Chestnut to Lyon and into the Presidio at the Lombard Gate.  I came around on Lincoln and got a nice shot of the Golden Gate Bridge:

I continued on Lincoln and got a shot of the Marin Headlands from just West of the bridge:

    Me:

I continued on Lincoln into Camino Del Mar to 25th to Balboa and down to the coast.  I came down the Great Highway as the sun was setting:

    Looking South towards Pacifica

I continued down the Great Highway to Skyline to Lake Merced to Font to Holloway to Lee to Ocean to Phelan to Judson to Foerster to Monterey to Diamond to Wilder to Arlington to San Jose to Duncan to Valencia to 18th to Diamond to 17th to Ord and home for dinner.

  • Thursday, December 18

The weather was pretty nice when I went home for lunch.  It quickly went downhill from there.  Rufus messed in his crate which was disgusting and likely related to his pork chop stealing caper from the night before.  Luckily I live in a house with a driveway and a hose.  I went to go put my flip flops on so I could lug the kennel down to the driveway to hose it out when I realized that Rufus had also chewed up one of my flip flops.  And this behavior mind you, from all accounts, comes from the best behaved dog we’ve got.  Sigh.  I guess I know how Kathy Hilton feels.

I got a few pics of the pretty afternoon on the way back.  This is One Polk Street, a building that I have mixed feelings about.  But it certainly looks handsome twinkling in the sun:

    Me at 10th and Market:

This is the Warfield building.  It isn’t in the greatest shape but it’s suck a fabulous building.  I hope it’s renovated soon:

Same goes for the lovely Golden Gate Theater across the street from it:

After work the weather looked really dicey and it was freezing cold and I didn’t want to be out biking in both sub 40 degree weather and rain.  Don’t judge me.  So I headed home Sutter to Scott to Duboce to Noe to Market to 17th to Ord and home for dinner.  Mr. Poe was home from his evening meeting earlier than expected which was a treat.

  • Thursday, December 18

It was a couple degrees warmer this morning than yesterday but still very cold.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came down the Great Highway and got a shot of the sun rising behind San Bruno Mountain from just north of Lake Merced.  Pretty:

I continued on the Great Highway to Skyline to Lake Merced to Winston to Moncada to Urbano to Pico to De Montefort to Miramar to Ocean to Phelan to Judson to Foerster to Monterey to Diamond to Wilder to Arlington to Randall.  This is the view looking down San Jose Ave towards downtown from Randall:

This is the view towards Bernall Hill from the same vantage point:

I took San Jose to Duncan to Valencia to 24th to Bartlett to 21st to San Carlos to 18th to Folsom to 2nd to Market to Sansome and into work.

  • Wednesday, December 17

It was pretty much freezing all day.  But dry so I’m not going to complain.  Still… very much looking forward to spring.

I got some pictures while I was coming back from lunch.  This building was built to be a hotel but is now an apartment building.  It’s deco-licious:

This is Citigroup Center(I think).  An old bank was hollowed out to make a courtyard for a modern building behind it.  It’s interesting:

This is the view down Bush Street from Sansome:

After work I headed down Howard Street.  I got some interesting pics of the sunset as I headed west:

I continued on Howard to 11th to Harriston to 21st to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey to Circular and into the City College.  I came out on Phelan to Ocean to Lee to Holloway to Font to Lake Merced to Winston to Cerritos to Ocean to San Leandro to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.  Rufus was in trouble.  He capitalized on a moment when Mr. Poe was distracted by Mimi and Ashley playing to grab a pork chop off of the kitchen counter and run like hell.  One one hand I’m disgusted by his brazen behavior but on the other hand I’m amazed that he was able to pull it off.
