Still sick!  I went to the doctor on Monday and he put me on an armada of antibiotics and I’m feeling better and will be back on the bike this weekend.  Thank god.  Because after Mr. Poe’s thanksgiving dinner I’m a little paunchy and need the exercise…..  I took Friday off and Mr. Poe and I went to the spanking new California Academy of Sciences.  This is the members line a half an hour before opening.  Ouch:

Mr. Poe looking forlorn at the crowds:

When we finally got in.  The museum is very interesting but very crowded.  We headed down to the aquarium in the basement.  Which is gorgeous.  But it was so crowded I was totally getting claustrophobic.  I compensated by looking at all the pretty things:

Coral looks like an asshole.  There I said it.  Don’t judge me:

Then we headed up to the first level which is gorgeous:

Lousy penguins think they’re so great….

Me in front of the rainforest exhibit which had a three hour wait so this was our only glimpse of it:

Then we headed up to the roof which is planted and fabulous:

This is from the interior of the SNACK BAR.  Yes this is the snack bar.  The California Academy of Sandwiches if you will:

Then we headed over to the De Young to go see the Yves Saint Laurent exhibit.  I couldn’t take pictures but it was FABULOUS.  I like the simpler grecian inspired pieces that highlight the tailoring.  Ahhhh haute couture….  Here’s Mr. Poe in the observation tower looking pensivelicious:

And me trying to look butch.  Total number of people fooled = 0

This is the California Academy of Sciences from the observation tower of the De Young:

This is some cool metalwork we were allowed to photograph….

We headed off for Chinese for Lunch and then home to see the dogs.  We took Ashley to go see shopping in the Castro and I sent my friend Miss Jim a Christmas present that I believe he will enjoy immensely

My hot and spicy brother Sam came to town!  As you can see, glamour runs in the family:

Here’s Mr. Poe looking delicious as is his way:

And here he is getting the kissy face from Ashley:

And I took this video which graphically illustrates what a charming hottie my husband is:

After work I headed off down Howard Street.  I got some pics on the way:

I continued on Howard to 11th to Harrison to 18th.  Here’s a pic of 18th at Mission:

I continued on 18th to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey into Santa Clara into Vicente to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway to Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.

I totally overslept so I took a much shorter ride this morning.  At least I didn’t just come down Market into work.  I rode Corbett to Clayton to Ashbury to Page to Baker.  This is the view across the Panhandle from Baker and Oak:

I continued on Baker to Fulton to Steiner to Post.  Japantown looked especially beautiful this morning:

I continued on Post to Kearny to Bush to Sansome and into work.

  • Thursday, November 20

I was walking around the financial district mid day and took some pics.  I live in such a beautiful city.  Take that, Akron!

There are a lot of sculptures around town commemorating labor.  Usually naked labor.  I can’t explain the naked part but I feel very strongly that smelters should wear pants.

Me at the foot of California Street:

One last piece of architecture porn:

After work I headed of Sutter to Fillmore to Clay to Locust to Washington to Arguello to 23rd to Cabrillo to 47th to Fulton to the Great Highway and then I headed south.  I hit 10,000 miles for the year on the Great Highway at about Judah street which was fitting because I’ve ridden so many of my miles on that road.  I continued to Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.

I managed to drag myself out of bed on time but it wasn’t easy.  I’m still feeling pretty crappy but I really want to get back on my schedule so I was up at a quarter to five.  I was feeling a little better after I was on the bike for a little while.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  There’s big activity at the south windmill!  I think they’ve finished with the base and now they’ve erected a temporary structure to protect something from the elements.  Stay tuned!

I took MLK to the Music Concourse and then JFK to 8th to Lake to Washington to Lyon to Pacific.  There’s a lot of gorgeous homes on Pacific:

    Me on Pacific:

I continued on Pacific to Powell to Jackson.  It had started to rain a little.  Ugh.  This is Grant from Jackson looking east:

    And looking west:

I continued on Jackson to Battery to Sacramento to Sansome and into work.

I couldn’t drag my ass out of bed this morning so I just came down Market into work.  I did go home for lunch.  The dogs got smart new haircuts a few weeks ago and they’ve finally grown in a bit.  Here’s Ashley in the cute little tank top Mr. Poe brought him back from Hawaii:

Rufus and Ashley snuggling.  Or fighting.  One of the two:

    Me holding Ashley:

    And my little girl Mimi.

What does she remind me of??  Oh yes, now I remember:

It’s super cold in San Francisco.  The sun was starting to peek out on my way back to work but from my house it was nothing but fog:

But at least it isn’t raining…

  • Tuesday, November 18

I’m finally starting to feel better.  The weather’s been great for a week and I’ve been missing out.  I decided to ride after work but of course the fog had rolled back in and it was 55 and miserable.  Oh, well, at least it wasn’t raining.  I rode Sutter to Fillmore to Clay to Walnut to Washington to Arguello to Lake to 23rd to Cabrillo to 47th to Fulton to the Great Highway and then down the coast to Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett to Ord and then home for dinner.  We decided to go out because I haven’t been eating very much and was suddenly craving fried, salty food.  We went to Brandy Ho’s.  That place is only so so but I don’t think there’s another Chinese place in the Castro you’d want to eat at.  They’re not half as good as my beloved, departed Yum Yum House and they’re kind of expensive for what you’re getting,  Should have picked Thai.
