I took a half day because I had training ride leader recertification at the SFAids Foundation that night.  Yes I know I said I wasn't gonna do it this year because it takes so much time and was kind of a pain in the ass last year.  BUT,  I saw Wilfredo at Safeway Saturday and he was all "just go to the recertification and you can decide later whether you want to lead rides" and I can't say no to him.  I'm hoping that he never chooses to join Scientology.  So I took a half day and went for a nice little ride in the afternoon.

I took 2nd to Howard to 11th to Harrison to 24th.  These were originally four identical houses but the one on the corner was raised and a store went into the first floor.  Neat!:

I continued on 24th to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to San Jose to Randall to Arlington to Miguel into Richland to Leese to Crescent to Agnon to Justin and into Saint Mary's Park.  I went over 280 at the footbridge and took Trumbull into Cambridge to Bacon to San Bruno into Bayshore to Guadalupe Canyon.  I climbed and climbed and climbed.  I stopped near the top to document the fog rolling in:

This in brisbane from halfway up Guadalupe Canyon:

    And me as well:

I continued on Gualdalupe Canyon into East Market to San Pedro to Washington to 87th to Park Plaza to John Daly to Lake Merced to Font to Holloway to Lunado to Cerritos to Ocean to Phelan to Judson to Foerster to Teresita to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home.

I went to the meeting and I can see the writing on the wall that I'm going to be doing training rides again.  Which I have mixed feelings about but I love the riders so it's gonna be OK.

I headed off this morning Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the Coast.  I came up the Great Highway and then took Point Lobos into Geary to 34th and up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor.  It was super foggy and a little dreary but it was dry so I'll take it:

I took Camino Del Mar to Lake to Arguello to Washington to Lyon to Pacific.  I found this cool apartment building on Pacific somewhere arround Webster:

    Me on the street:

I continued on Pacific up onto Russian Hill and then turned on Jones and headed to Nob Hill.  Grace Catherdral looked lovely as usual:

This is an aparment building at Jones and California.  It has an incredibly detailed entrance.  Swank!

I took California to Leidesdorff and into work.

  • Wednesday, September 10

I headed off after work 2nd to King to 3rd.  South Beach is hopping!  I love that neighborhood.  It's probably the fastest growing area in the city and it's incredibly vibrant.  For example:

The back side of the ballpark:

I crossed over to Mission Bay which has developed substantially since the last time I visited.  I'm not sure what this building is going to be but I'm loving it:

Me with the Mission Bay development behind me:

I continued on 3rd to Mariposa to Tennessee.  The Dog Patch continues to become more and more desirable.  Love it:

Here's one of the older buildings on Tennessee street:

    It has fantastic detail:

I continued on Tennessee to 25th to 3rd to Evans to Cesar Chavez to Hampshire to 26th to Bryant to Precita to Mission to 29th to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey into Santa Clara to Saint Francis into Sloat to Gabilan to Crestlake to Wawona to 30th to Vicente to 18th to Taravel to Dewey to Laguna Honda into 7th to Hugo to Arguello to Frederick to Cole to Carmel to Corbett to Ord and Home.  Mr. Poe had to work late yet again so I had dinner and took the dogs for a long walk.  Everybody was exhausted when he finally got home at 9 so we went to bed.

    Bike Mileage:
    Today                                          40.9

  • Wednesday, September 10

I got a few extra minutes of sleep this morning because the power was out when I woke up.  But the power came back on at about 4:45 so I got up and got ready to go.  I took Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey and down to the coast.  I came down the Great Highway and stopped south of Sloat for pics of the foggy yet pretty morning:  Looking south towards Pacifica:

    Looking north towards Marin:

I took the Great Highway to Skyline to Lake Merced to Winston to Mercedes to Ocean to Phelan to Judson to Foerster to Monterey to Diamond to Wilder to Arlington to Randall to San Jose to 29th to Tiffany to Valencia to 14th to Folsom to 2nd to Market to Sansome and into work.

  • Tuesday, September 9

After work I headed off Sutter to Laguna to Pine to Webster.  This fabulous church is on Pine at Webster.  It's pretty deteriorated, but it looks like they're starting to work on it so hopefully it will be restored soon.

    Fantastic detail:

Down the block from it is the Health Sciences Library which is a fantastic example of 1912 architecture.  Well proportioned and exquisitely detailed it's everything you'd want in a library:

Me with Pine Street behind me:

Down the street from the library is this Beax arts-ilicious apartment building which is dripping in fantastic detail.  Me likey!

I continued on Webster to Pacific to Lyon to Jackson to Walnut to Washington to Arguello to Cabrillo to 8th and into Golden Gate Park.  I took FJK to Bernice Rodgers to MLK to La Playa to the Great Highway and down to coast to Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett where I ran into my friends Sally and Mia walking their dog.  I continued on to Ord and went home for dinner.

  • Tuesday, September 9

I overslept AGAIN.  But I managed to get out of the house at a reasonable hour so I got a little ride in anyway.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  I took it Middle to Bowling Green to JFK to the Panhandle and then Baker to Golden Gate.  St. Boniface's is a really neat building but it's almost impossible to photograph because of the site it sits on:

It's in a terrible neighborhood, but there's a lot of building going on anyway so I guess the sketchy days are numbered.

This poor eyesore houses the San Francisco AIDS foundation among other things.  It's a pretty early 20th century building with a 50's or 60's overlay.  The corners got damaged in a storm a couple of years ago and the modern facade covering had to be removed which is why it looks like it does.  I wish they'd remove all of the modern veneer and return it to what it looked like when it was built because it looks like it was probably really pretty:

I continued down Market.  This is one of my favorite buildings in the Financial District.  So detailed and so neat:

I continued on Market to Sansome.  I work next door to this building.  It's got a less than fabulous modern addition next to it but the original structure is wonderful:

I continued on Sansome and headed into work.

  • Monday, September 8

I saw this man wearing this tshirt on my way back from lunch.  At first I was wincing at the apparent age inappropriateness of a shirt that might be cheeky on a guy half his age.  However, since I snickered about it for the rest of the day I've concluded that he should wear whatever the hell he wants.

After work I headed off Howard to 11th to Harrison to Mariposa to Florida to 24th.  This incredible mural embellishes a discount store!!  It's hard to believe but it's true:

These murals were from a playground on 24th.  They're really pretty and really well done.  Apparently they're a 1992 refresh of a 1970's design:

Pretty movie theatre sign from 24th:

I continued on 24th to Hampshire to 26th to Bryant to Precita to Mission to 29th to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey to Circular to Marston and into the City College and then Phelan to Ocean to Lee to Holloway to Font to Lake Merced to Skyline to the Great Highway to Vicente to 18th to Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.  Mr. Poe had gotten home late so I took the dogs for a walk while he made us dinner and then we went to bed.  Long day.

    Bike Mileage:
    Today                                          43.7
    Week to date                             172.9

  • Monday, September 8

I slept in again.  It's so hard to get up early on Mondays when I sleep in on the weekends.  Solution:  get up earlier on the weekends.  I got a little ride in before work.  I headed off Corbett to Clayton to Ashbury to Frederick to Masonic.  This is Haight Street from Masonic.  Caution:  Hippies.

I took Masonic to Page to Baker to Fulton to Pierce to Ellis to Steiner to Post and stopped in Japantown for pics:

I continued on Post.  This is the Niketown building in Union Square.  It's a great building and I love all the detail.  It was presumably built with an older demographic than those that manufacture the clothes.  But I'm not complaining.  Those tiny little fingers get the stitches just right.

I continued on Post to Kearny.  This is a great view of the Financial District.  A little seedy.  It borders the Financial District, Chinatown, and Union Square and I guess it picks up the dregs of all three:

I took Kearny to Clay to Sansome and into work.

  • Sunday, September 7

I loafed around for much of the day but finally managed to get my ass on a bike around 2.  I headed of 17th to Diamond to 18th to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to San Jose to Randall to Arlington to Miguel into Richland to Leese to Crescent to Agnon to Justin and into Saint Mary's Park.  I went over 280 at the footbridge and then took Trumbull into Cambridge to Felton to San Bruno into Bayshore down through Brisbane and into South San Francisco where it became Airport.  This cool building is under construction right at the foot of San Bruno Mountian.  I  like how the sinewy blue curves of the mountain contrast against the rugged brown terrain.  Me likey:

I continued on Airport to South Airport to McDowell where I saw this Qantas 747 sitting around.  It spends much of the day at the gate and it's a beautiful aircraft:

I continued on McDowell to Bayshore Ave at the foot of Millbrae ave where I stopped to get some pics of the aircraft taking off from the pretty park there.  I was surprised at how many Southwest Airlines 737's I saw.  They're a recent re-entrant at SFO and they seem to have a lot of flights.  Which is a good thing because they're pretty cheap and generally less bother than flying a lot of other airlines:

    United 757:

KLM 747-400.  My favorite livery.  Love, love love it.  Would have been happier had it been a MD-11 but I"m not complaining.

    Air Frane 747-400:

I continued on Bayshore into Airport and turned around at Anza.  I crossed over the 101 at Broadway and headed into Burlingame which was much prettier than I expected it would be.  There was a little shopping village and then a pretty residential area:

I continued on Broadway to Vancouver into the grounds of the Kohl Mansion.  Which is pretty and looks like a movie set.  There's a Catholic High School on the grounds now and some other stuff and there was a wedding going on that I didn't want to intrude upon.

I took Adeline to Hillside to Skyline to Trousdale to Hunt to Frontera to Vallejo to Millbrae.  I looked back down to the Airport and saw that Qantas 747 again:

And also a pair of British Airways 747's which take off in the late afternoon:

I took Millbrae to Skyline back into San Francisco to the Great Highway and then into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  I followed it to the Panhandle to Stanyon to Page to Scott to Duboce to Castro to 17th to Ord and home for dinner.  Then I took the dogs for a walk and we went to bed.

    Bike Mileage:
    Today                                          43.7

  • Saturday, September 6

Hot again!  We took Rufus to his new obedience class.  He needs to
start doing some things and stop doing others.  Ashley indeed loves his
baby pool and spent a bit of time splashing around in it.
