Month: April 2008

  • Friday, April 11

It was a lot warmer this morning than it's been in a long time.  Which is terrific because it's been a very cold winter.  It was beautiful at the ocean and I took multiple shots of the Golden Gate Bridge from various vantage points along my ride.  Enjoy!

I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and then down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and then got on Geary to 33rd to Clement to 32nd to Camino Del Mar.  I stopped and got a nice pic of the Golden Gate Bridge in SeaCliff:

    And a closer view:

I continued on Camino Del Mar into Lincoln in the Presidio.  I stopped for another view of the bridge:

And one of me as well:

The Marin Headlands looked especially beautiful this morning.  The hills won't be green for much longer:

I continued on Lincoln and headed down towards Crissy Field and got a third view of the bridge:

I rode along Crissy Field to Marina Blvd into Fort Mason where I got a final view of the bridge:

I continued over Fort Mason to Van Ness through Aquatic Park to Beach to Columbus to Clay to Sansome and into work.

  • Thursday, April 10

When I headed home for lunch I noted that the Wisteria in Mr. Poe's garden is almost in full bloom.  Stay tuned for the glamour!

After work I headed off Sutter to Fillmore to Clay to Cherry to Washington to Arguello to Lake.  This house is on Lake at 23rd.  It's got such a great attic level.  Me likey:

I headed down 23rd and noted this business as 23rd and Geary.

I continued on 23rd to Cabrillo down to the ocean.  I stopped for a few pics of the beautiful late spring day on the ocean:

This is me with Balboa heights behind me.

I headed down the Great Highway and then got on JFK and went into Golden Gate Park.  I took JFK into the Panhandle to Stanyon to Page to Scott to Duboce to Castro to 17th and then home for dinner.  It's finally warming up.  Hooray!

  • Thursday, April 10

It was nice and sunny this morning and I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Pacheco.  This is the view from Dewey and Pacheco looking northwest:

I continued on Pacheco where I saw this adorable house I've photographed before.  It was a tree house in the front yard!

I continued on Pacheco to Funston to Radio to 14th where I got a gorgeous view of the western part of the city:

I continued on 14th to Aloha to Lomita to Moraga to 17th to Kirkham and down to the ocean.  I came back up on Irving to 9th and into Golden Gate Park to Middle to JFK and into the Panhandle.  I rode through the Panhandle to Baker to McAllister to Webster to Post to Kearny to Bush to Sansome and into work.  Lot of hills and fun, fun ride.

  • Wednesday, April 9

I didn't have any problems getting home for lunch but there were police everywhere and a lot of drama over the Olympic torch.  Our clever city administration elected to use a different torch route than published to thwart the protesters which made a lot of them very angry.  But it seems to me that the running of the torch is about the Olympics and athleticism as opposed to how much China sucks.  I agree with the mayor that changing the route was the right thing to do.  I saw some of the frustrated protesters heading away from the Embarcadero on my way back to work from lunch.

After work I headed off 2nd to Howard and got a few shots of St. Joseph's on Howard at 10th.  I think it's best described as a lovely ruin:

I took 11th to Harrison to 20th where I saw this.  I love everything about the sign and it's accompanying statue.  It's a pickle bandito!  He's got mayonnaise and mustard in his pistol holsters.  What more could you want??

I think this building was also on 20th.  I'm betting it's missing it's attic level which would make it look a lot more balanced but it's beautiful as it is:

I took Capp and saw this fabulous church on 22nd:

I continued on Capp to 25th to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to San Jose Ave to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey to Gennessee to Flood to Hazelwood to Montecito to Eastwood to Wildwood to Faxon to De Montefort where I got a couple of shots of pretty St. Emydius:

I continued on De Montefort to Ashton to Pico to Urbano to to Borico where I got a shot of the pretty park on Entrada Ct.  It's looking up!  The last time I was there a lot of the grass had died and it was looking a little tatty:

I continued on Urbano to Alviso to Holloway to Denslowe to 19th to Winston to Lake Merced to Middlefield to Ocean to Clearfield into 24th to Yorba to Crestlake to Wawona to 30th to Vicente to 17th to Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett and then home.  Mr. Poe was working late.  Again.  So I took the dogs to the park and then fed everybody dinner and then went to bed.

  • Wednesday, April 9

I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast. I came up the Great Highway and then took Geary to 34th and up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor.  The golf course looked grand in the bright morning light:

I love the di Suvero sculpture from this angle.  It looks like it's moving with exciting thrust:

The Palace of the Legion of Honor looked lovely as ever:

Here's me in front of it:

I came down Camino Del Mar to Lake to Arguello to Washington where I took a few shots of some of the many grand homes:

I continued on Washington to Lyon to Jackson to Gough to Pacific to Powell to Jackson to Stockton to Clay to Sansome and into work.

  • Tuesday, April 8

It was a little cloudy and windy and cold.  Still.  I headed off after work Columbus to North Point to Van Ness to Francisco to Laguna to Chestnut to Lyon and into the Presidio. I came around on Lincoln and stopped at the bridge for a picture:

I continued on Lincoln into Camino Del Mar.  This is the view down 27th from El Camino Del Mar.  Spectacular:

This is me with 27th in the background:

I continued up Camino Del Mar and stopped at the Palace of the Legion of Honor for some pics.  Here's the big cool yellow thing I love so much.  It actually makes Mr. Poe angry.  "What the hell is that??" he demanded.

Here's another view of the di Suvero sculpture that I have such mixed feelings about it.  From this angle I totally get "Gumby as cheerleader".  Not a good thing.

This is the view bak towards the Presdio from the Palace of the Legion of Honor:

And the view of Marin from the same vantage point:

My bike against the gates.  Is it art??

I came down Legion of Honor to Clement into Seal Rock.  This is the view from Seal Rock and Camino Del Mar:

I came down Point Lobos and then took the Great Highway south.  I stopped for a shot of the setting sun just west of the zoo:

I came around Lake Merced on Skyline to Lake Merced to WInston and then into Ingleside Terrace.  There's a bunch of beautiful homes there:

I took Mercedes to Cerritos to Ocean to Faxon to Elmwood to Eastwood to San Ramon to Plymouth to Greenwood to Staples to Foerster to Teresita to Portola to Corbett and then home.  Fun day.

  • Tuesday, April 8

It was cold and blustery this morning.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  The sun peeking through the clouds and the fog made for a spectacular sight:

I took MLK to Stow Lake.  I stopped for a picture of one of the many flowering trees in the park:

    I am not yet flowering:

I took JFK to 8th to Lake to Arguello and into the Presidio.  I came out at the Lombard Gate and then took Chestnut to Polk to North Point to the Embarcadero to Washington to Battery to California to Sansome and into work.

  • Monday, April 7

I went to go visit my friend Mr. Chris after lunch because he's providing the music for Team Different Spoke's Mardi Gras themed Lifecycle fundraising party on Sunday.  They've torn down a three story office building at the corner of Howard and Hawthorne where, incidentally, my friend Kevinn used to work, and the demolition revealed an old sign painted on the brick that was covered up when the now demolished building first went up.  I see stuff like this every now and then around San Francisco and I think it's so neat:

After work I headed off Sutter to Fillmore to Clay to Spruce where I took a liking to this ginormous mansion:

Especially the elegant detail over the front door:

I took Spruce to Washington to Arguello to Lake and stopped at Mountain Lake.  So pretty:

You even get a sinister view of the spooky old hospital that is slated to be turned into luxury condos any day now.  Insert sinister music here.

I continued on Lake to 28th to Clement to 30th.  I got some great shots of Presidio Middle School which is really pretty and in really great shape:

I continued on 30th to Cabrillo and headed for the ocean.  Here's the view looking west from Cabrillo at about 46th

    46th

I turned down the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at JFK.  I followed JFK to the Panhandle and took it to Baker where I got a shot of a beautiful church on Oak at Baker:

And one of me with the picturesque DMV behind me:

I continued on Baker to Page to Scott to Duboce to Castro to 17th and then home.  We went to the park with the dogs and Rufus behaved himself mostly and Ashley was charming and delightful.

  • Monday, April 7

I felt great this morning which was nice because I'd ridden so much over the weekend.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Fowler to Reposa to Rockdale to Omar to Sequoia to Bella Vista to Burlwood to Los Palmos to Hazelwood to Yerba Buena to Brentwood to Maywood to El Verano to Upland.  This is Upland Street looking west towards the ocean:

I continued on Upland to San Benito to Ocean to Clearfield into 34th to Yorba to 35th to Vicente and down to the ocean.  I came up the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  I took it to Bowling Green to JFK and into the Panhandle and then Baker to McAllister to Polk to O'Farrell.  This parking garage is on O'Farrell and it's got nice gothic detail:

Fabulous Gargoyles painted gold.  Of course:

I took O'Farrell to Powell where I took some pics of the St. Francis Hotel.  Wonderful detail outside, I'm not as sold on it inside:

This is me with Union Square behind me:

I continued on Powell to Post to Kearny.  This beautiful building is on Kearny and Sutter.  I love it:

    Check out the detail:

I continued on Kearny to Bush to Sansome and into work.

  • Sunday, April 6

I got up incredibly early for a Lifecycle training ride.  We had to leave at 6:30 because they were closing the bridge for a race.  We didn't have a big turnout and we had a lot of fun.  I got a few pics at lunch in Point Reyes Station.  Here's Kurt showing off one of his signature dance moves that made him so popular in  "Up With People".

Here's everybody getting ready to go:

We stopped in Nicasio for more Pics.  Here are Sandra and Tia with one of our gorgeous riders:

I got in pretty early because of the low rider turnout and the early departure.  We went to the park where Rufus ended up in time out for fighting.  Let me tell you, nothing makes that dog behave more than watching Ashley playing with all the dogs while he's stuck sitting next to me.  When I finally let him run around again, he was a perfect gentleman.  I managed to get Mr. Poe's new television figured out before I went to bed.  Finally, I'm useful for something.

I've you've been keeping an eye on my mileage, you'll notice that today, I'm ahead of plan for the first time this year.  Hooray for me!
