I had to fix a flat this morning before I left.  I knew it was going flat last night but instead of changing it then I pumped it full of air.  As if some magical power was going to fix the hole in it.  That never seems to happen.  I need a new tire for my road bike because this is happening a lot.  I fixed it and I was on my way.  It was a gorgeous morning.

I headed off Corbett to Portola to Fowler to Teresita to Gaviota to Bella Vista to Burlwood to Los Palmos to Hazelwood to Yerba Buena to Brentwood.  This is the view southwest to Daly City from Brentwood:

I continued on Brentwood to Maywood to El Verano to Darien.  There was a beautiful view of the ocean from Darien as well:

I continued on Darien to San Benito to Sa Anselmo into 14th to Vicente and down to the ocean.  I came up the Great Highway and then went into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  I took MLK to the Music Concourse to JFK to the Panhandle to Baker to McAllister to Larkin to Bush to Sansome and into work.

  • Wednesday, April 23

I took this picture on my way back from lunch.  They're extending a grand old building a little.  I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's finished:

After work I headed off Sutter to Presidio to Euclid to Jordan.  I stopped and got a couple of pics of some of the lovely early 20th century homes accross the street from St. Gregory the Illuminator:

This one's a little more restrained:

I turned around and got back on Euclid to Arguello to Cabrillo to Funston and into the Rose Garden which is starting to come into bloom.  Which is great because it's one of my favoritest places to hang up:

Me with the garden in the background:

I got on JFK and took that to BErnice Rodgers to MLK to the Great Highway to Taravel to Merced to Hernandez to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett and then home.  Mr. David met me at the dog park and the dogs played and playd.  Ashley charmed the hell out of everybody as is his way.  We went home for dinner and then everybody got brushed and I went to bed.  Mr. Poe didn't make it home until 11:30!  Lousy meetings.  I didn't wait up.

  • Wednesday, April 23

It had stopped raining and was pretty dry by the time I got up.  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the ocean. I came up the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  I took MLK to the Music Concourse and then JFK to 8th to Lake to Arguello and into the Presidio.  I came out of the Presidio at the Lombard Gate and then got on Chestnut where I stopped to get a few pics of some more of the beautiful Deco commercial buildings there:

I took Chestnut to Laguna to Francisco to Polk where I got a shot looking towards Aquatic Park.  That's the Fontana building to the left and the Maritime Museum (presently being renovated) at the end of the street:

I took Polk to Bay to Hyde.  Here is one of our iconic cable cars.  This one has no passengers.  It must be early:

Hyde Street between North Point and Bay has a number of Victorians that miraculously survived the 1906 earthquake and fire.  A plaque on one of them indicates a 1902 construction date and I'll bet all of them were built then because they all match.  They're fabulous!

I can only imagine how the homeowners felt after the fire when they returned home to take stock of the ruins only to find that their homes had survived.

I headed off after work down Howard Street where I saw this great building between 4th and 5th:

    Love the detail:

I continued on Howard to 11th to Harrison to Precita to Mission to Richland to Leese to Crescent to Agnon to Justin and into St. Mary's Park.  I crossed over 280 on the footbridge and then took Trumbull to Cambridge to Felton to San Bruno into Bayshore to Guadalupe Canyon Parkway.  I climbed and climbed and got a great shot looking east of the San Bruno Mountains:

I came out on E Market where I ran into my pal Joe Mueller.  We rode E Market to San Pedro to Washington to 87th to Park Plaza to Southgate to Lake Merced to John Muir to Skyline to Great Highway to JFK and into Golden Gate Park where Joe headed off to his home in the Richmond and I headed home.  I took JFK through the park where it was lightly raining and getting dark:

    Who is this shadowy figure??

I took JFK to the Panhandle to Stanyon to Page to Scott to Duboce to Noe to Market to 17th and home.  Mr. Poe had class so the dogs and I partied til he came home and then we all went to bed.

  • Tuesday, April 22

I felt pretty good this morning and headed off Corbet to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and then got on Geary to 34th and up the Palace of the Legion of Honor.  I came down Camino Del Mar to Lake to Arguello to Clay to Divisadero to Jackson.  I love this crumbling hose across from Alta Plaza on Jackson.  I wouldn't want to be anywhere near that facade in an earthquake, but the flowers look nice:

This is me with Jackson Street behind me:

I continued on Jackson Street where I photographed another crumbling facade.  I've taken pics of this one before.  It's so fabulous.  I hope the decay is only superficial because I'd hate to see a house like this go:

Check out the glamorous, elegant detail:

I continued on Jackson to Franklin to Pacific to Powell.  This pretty park is on Powell at John:

This is the view of Powell from John Street:

This is the view down Jackson of Chinatown into the Financial District with the fabulous Bay Bridge in the background:

I got on Jackson and stopped at Grant to take a pic looking East:

    And also West:

I continued on Jackson to Montgomery to Clay to Sansome and into work.

  • Monday, April 21

I felt pretty crappy in the AM after all that riding on the weekend, so I slept in and just went down Market into work.  I felt a little better when I went home for lunch and I was definitely perked up by the end of the day.

I headed off after work Columbus to North Point to Van Ness to Francisco to Laguna to Chestnut to Lyon and into the Presidio.  I came around on Lincoln and headed  west.  I stopped a little west of the Golden Gate Bridge to take some pictures of the Richmond:

The onion shaped domes of the Holy Virgin Cathedral stand out against the general residential malaise that makes up the outer Richmond:

    Land End:

I came out of the Presidio at Camino Del Mar and took it to 28th to Clement to 32nd to Balboa and down to the coast.  I stopped around Fulton on the Great Highway and took a few pics.  The Seal Rocks:

The setting sun amid the pretty, swirly clouds:

Me with the new "Mega Tan" I managed to pick up this weekend.  Yes I wear sunscreen.  Two different layers.

I went into Golden Gate Park at JFK and took it into the Panhandle and then rode Stanyon to Page to Scott to Duboce to Castro to 17th and then home.  I took Ashley and Rufus to the park while Mr. Poe made dinner and then I worked on organizing my comic book collection while he watched "How I Met Your Mother".  I only cataloged my new stuff.  I need to keep track of what I'm buying so I don't miss issues.  It's easy because with "The Amazing Spider Man" coming out three times a month it's hard to keep up.  Check out the Divialicious tranny heels on the evil Insect Queen from this recent issue of Superman.  I want to say Lanvin but the seem a little more Shauna Sand to me....

  • Sunday, April 20

I was pretty beat when I woke up but I managed to drag myself over to the Sports Basement for my AIDS Lifecycle training ride.  It thankfully was not as windy as it had been on Saturday, but it was pretty cold.  We headed out to Petaluma which is a really pretty ride and everybody had a fun time.  And, we have the best looking riders:

These are from the top of Wilson Hill.  It was a lot of climbing but the view was incredible:

Here's Miss Courtney luxuriating in Petaluma at lunch.

I didn't get home until 6:30 which meant I'd been on my bike a total of 24 hours for the weekend.  I was totally wiped out.

  • Saturday, April 19

I did a really long ride today.  I headed off over the Golden Gate Bridge, through Sausalito into Mill Valley and over Camino Alto into Corte Madera.  I continued towards Fairfax and then Nicasio and then up to the Cheese Factory.  And then I headed through Chileno Valley which was really pretty.  I had pretty massive headwinds all day and didn't get a lot of pics for that reason, but I did get a couple of this 1906 schoolhouse:

Chileno Valley Road spit me out on the way to Tomales and I took that into town and then out to Dillon Beach.  I stopped to get some pics of the bay:

Me with the town behind me:

Me with the bay behind me:

I headed back and was surprised how quickly I got back into Tomales.  The wind was nuts!  I then headed down Tomales Bay which was a mistake because I was suffering through gusty cross winds the whole time.  I went through Point Reyes Station and then over Olema Hill and through Samuel P Taylor Park and then back to Fairfax  where I got a flat.   I fixed it and went back over Camino Alto, through Sausalito and went over the bridge where it was very, very windy.  I went through the Presidio and back into Golden Gate Park where I got ANOTHER flat.  It was getting late and I was beat so instead of fixing it I had dear Mr. Poe come pick me up.

  • Friday, April 18

I had to cut my ride a little short after work because I had to take my commuter bike down to REI to get the brakes looked at.  I rode Market to Turk.  Turk continued to be super sketchy in the Tenderloin.  I crossed Van Ness and got a pretty shot or what I think used to be Sacred Heart Church on Eddy but it now some other kind of church:

I continued on Turk to Balboa to 8th and into Golden Gate Park.  I headed over to the Music Concourse and took some pics of the new California Academy of Sciences

    .

    Adn also the De Young:

These arty pics were taken behind the music shell colonnade looking back towards the museum.  Fancy!

And finally the obligatory smilin' shot of me:

I came out of the park at JFK and then took Stanyon to Page to Scott to Duboce to Castro and then home.

    Bike Mileage:

  • Friday, April 18

It was foggy this morning but not too terribly cold so I wasn't going to complain.  I rode Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  These pretty trees are in bloom on MLK. Everything in the park seems to be in bloom.  It's gorgeous:

I took MLK to Stow Lake and then rode around it.  You can see the towers of St. Ignatius peeking out between the trees:

Mr with the lake behind me:

    The lake:

A swan who was clearly annoyed at the paparazzi:

I got on JFK to 8th to Lake to Arguello and into the Presidio.  I came out of the Presidio at the Lombard gate and then got on Chestnut.  This is one of the fabulous deco commercial buildings on Chestnut.  There's a bunch of them and I love them all:

I continued on Chestnut to Polk to North Point to the Embarcadero to Washington to Sansome to Jackson to Davis to go pick up my laundry and then Broadway to Battery to Sacramento to Sansome and into work.
