Month: January 2008

Shaved off most of the beard and I was left with this goatee which Mr. Poe thinks makes me look evil and I think makes me look like a gay French pirate.  You be the judge:

I was running very late so I came down Market into work.  I stopped by REI to get my brakes adjusted and then headed home for Lunch.  Where I smelled gas in the kitchen.  I was stuck at home for the rest of the day waiting for PG&E to come and fix whatever it was that had come loose.  When the guy finally showed up it turned out the problem was the range and something I probably should have noticed and fixed myself--  one of the dials for one of the burners was turned on enough for gas to move but not enough for it to ignite.  I"m an idiot!  It wasn't a total waste of time because there was a small leak in the laundry room on the new dryer which he fixed.  Still, it's clear to me that I am not handy around the house.

More rain!  I managed to get Rufus out for a long walk in between deluges.  He was very happy about that:

We walked thropugh Buena Vista Park and into Cole Valley up to UCSF and then took a rode and a staircase up to the university buildings on Mount Sutro.  It was very, very green up there after all that rain:

Last day of my beard.  Doesn't it match my hair perfectly?  Shut up, my hair was totally this color when I was younger.  Right after I'd spent three hours having it bleached.

It was a cold rainy mess for much of the rest of the day.  We headed down to Union Square with Ashley to finish up the shopping we couldn't do at Stonestown.  He's really starting to like going places and he loves meeting new people.  Which is wonderful.  He's also entering the ninja period of little dog puppyness which means he could attack you at any moment.

  • Saturday, January 5

It rained all day again on Saturday.  I had a great idea in the afternoon.  "Why don't we go to Stonestown Galleria??  We need to go shopping anyway and it's all inside!".  That was a huge mistake.  Part of the reason that the shopping is so nice around Union Square is because it sucks so hard everywhere else.  Stonestown Galleria is a shitty, shitty mall full of ugly people trying to wedge themselves into horrifying clothes before plopping it down at the food court to see how much Sbarro they can suck down before entering a nitrate induced coma.  AND they're closing down the Hello Kitty store.  It was almost more than I could bear.  Did you know how much I loved Hello Kitty??  A lot.  Apparently, they are coming out with a new line especially for fags boys.  You can read more about it here.  I'm totally buying the entire range.  The day was saved when, after leaving the mall, we headed off to the coast to watch the surf before the next storm came in.  Mr. Poe refused to get out of the car, a fact I documented:

But I did.  And it was beautiful and blustery and gorgeous:

    As was I:

  • Friday, January 4

I headed home after work Sutter to Scott to Duboce to Castro to 17th and then home.  I had been cold and wet all day and was pretty miserable.  Not to worry.  Mr. Poe came home and cheered me up as he always does.

I went home over lunch.  Yes in the rain.  Yes it was cold.  And windy as well.  But I wanted to see the dogs and Mr. Poe had made this fettuccine that I had a hankering for.  Man, the city is a mess.  Broken tree limbs and smashed umbrella pieces everywhere you look.  More scaffolding damage, although I don't think this one was structural:

I changed clothes before heading back because I was soaking wet.  The rain had let up a bit on the way home and it wasn't so bad.  Here's a pic of me back at the office.  Note the beard:

  • Friday, January 4

We're in the middle of the biggest storm we've had in a couple of years!  It's nuts.  I came in on the bike anyway.  Market was closed between Kearny and Montgomery because the scaffolding on a building under renovation was pulling away from the building.  The drama!

Here's one of me as well.  Drip dry:

Like my trade-y beard??  Not to worry.  It comes off next week because I'm going to go visit my parents in Florida and my Mom isn't going to respond well to my scruffy beard.

  • Thursday, January 3

It was a blustery morning and I didn't sleep well the night before so I didn't make it out of the house in the morning to ride so I just came down Market into work.  I headed home over lunch and exchanged my commuter bike for my wet weather commuter, a Kona Sutra with disk brakes that I break out when the weather is seriously inclement.  We didn't get as much rain in the afternoon as they had thought we would and I went riding after work.  I headed out Sutter to Presidio to Euclid to Arguello to Cabrillo and down to the coast and then down the Great Highway to Vicente into Santa Clara to Monterey to Diamond to Chenery to Randall to San Jose to 29th to Tiffany to Valencia to 19th to Dolores to 18th to Diamond to 17th and then home.

  • Wednesday, January 2

I was too hung over on January 1 to leave the house.  Happy New Years!  This is what happens when gets out of practice with the drinkin'.  I was running very late in the morning on the 2nd and came right down Market into work.  I headed home over lunch and took a few pics.  This is the Odd Fellows temple I like so much with the cool Federal building rising behind it:

I was stuck at 8th and Market for a long time while the police moved somebody through.  This is Fox Plaza, the second ugliest building in Civic Center.  Stuff is starting to be built around it, however, which will make it much less offensive.

This is the Ramada hotel from the same intersection:

After work I headed out 2nd to Howard to 11th to Harrison to 25th to Valencia to Tiffany to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey into Vicente and down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway  and turned at Cabrillo and took it to 8th and into Golden Gate Park.  I came out of the park at Stanyon and then took Page to Scott to Duboce to Castro to 17th and then home.

  • Monday December 31

Happy New Year!  I had a party to go to so I went very easy on the bike.  I went straight down Market into work and then back for lunch.  After work I rode Sutter to Post to Duboce to Castro to 17th and then home.  Here's a pic of all my sleepy babies:

    New Years Resolutions:

    1) Bicycle 10,000 miles in 2008.  That comes out to 27.3 miles a day (it's a leap year).
    2) Develop super powers (Carry over from 2007 list).  I'd like to be able to fly and I'd like to be able to shoot bolts of energy from my hands and maybe my eyes.
