Month: January 2008

I managed to get out of the house before it got too wet.  I rode Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel to the Great Highway and then up the coast.  I went into Golden Gate Park at MLK and followed up to the Music Concourse.  I rode through it and took a couple of pics.  This is the band shell:

This is the new California Academy of Sciences:

and one of me in front of it:

This is the De Young behind rising over these cool trees that look kind of freaky with no leaves:

I came out of the park at the Panhandle and then took Baker to Golden Gate to Market to Sansome and into work.  It started raining for most of the day.  I made it home for lunch but it was too ugly after work so I just came home up market.

Yuck  It was a bitterly cold, horribly wet morning and I wouldn't have gone biking at all but I didn't realize how bad it was until I was too far out to turn around.  I headed out Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel.  As I headed down Taravel it started raining really hard and it was incredibly cold.  My feet and fingers were numb by the time I got down to the Great Highway, but luckily it had stopped raining.  I went into Golden Gate Park and took MLK to Chain of Lakes to JFK all the way into the panhandle.  Then I took Baker to Golden Gate to Market to Sansome and into work.  I took advantage of a break in the rain to head home around lunch.  It was still pretty cold but at least it had dried out a little.  This is 14th and Market.  Mr. Poe likes the restaurant in this building but finds the portions too small:

This new building is at 14th and Landers.  It's really nice, but it's kind of intrusive and I think I would have liked it a little better if it had been a floor shorter.

This lovely Victorian is on 17th at Castro.  You can get your junk pierced here and then go next door and have a waffle when you're done.  Now THAT's convenience.

Here I am in front of the potter barn:

I found this at Market and Castro.  Isn't somebody going to miss that??

On the way back from lunch I got a shot of the Mint which is so cool looking:

After work I headed off Sutter to Filmore to Clay to Arguello to McAllister to Stanyon to Hayes to Scott to Duboce to Castro to 17th and then home.  It started raining on me again in Pacific Heights and I was soaking wet and VERY crabby by the time I got home.

    Bike Mileage:

  • Sunday, January 20

The CAT2 lifecycle rides have started up again.  Today was the first one out to Mill Valley.  We had to show up very early for a flat tire clinic.  Miss Armstrong seemed blissfully unaware that I've started the rumor that he's a female to male transsexual and explained his massive hirsuteness with rumors of Portuguese ancestry.  This will likely lead to a heartfelt apology to female to male transsexuals as well as the Portuguese at some point in the near future.  Here she is explainin' things:

Note the ride leader vest.  This is supposed to be an improvement over the helmet cover but it is not.  Rather, it's a look I associate more with people working off their community service by clearing the highways of trash on a Sunday afternoon than anything else.  I believe I'll be passing on the vest.  Unless it's court ordered.

Here's a shot of the shivering class:

It was warming up a little by the time we headed off.  I was parked at a turn pointing for an hour and I got to the stop long after the fast riders had left.  But there were a number of hotties left:

    .

It's so nice to see that Miss Kurt still knows how to work it.  At her age:

I swept the last rider in.  It took quite a while but he made it!  I got a few pics in while he was catching his breath.  This is a cottage on South Street in Sausalito.  Is it Eastlake??  I don't know.  It looks 1870's to me.

These are a few views of Sausalito Lateral as we climbed out:

We got the last rider back to Sports Basement and I headed home.  went through the Marina and went over Fort Mason Park.  I got a nice shot of the Fontana from Fort Mason:

And one of me with the fort buildings behind me:

    This is Franklin and Bay:

I took Franklin to Chestnut to Polk.  The Alhambra Theater is a gym now but it's still a pretty building:

    With exquisite detail:

I continued on Polk to Market and headed towards the Castro.  Where I got a shot of this cute boy posing in a beaded frock that he was going to buy from one of the never ending garage sales at Sanchez and Market.  Sadly, the most ridiculous part of the outfit isn't the skintight sequined chemise, but rather the jeans.  He-capri's I believe they're called.

I continued on Market to17th and then home.

    Bike Mileage:
    Today                                   32.6

  • Saturday, January 19

We took Rufus to class where he's learning to be less lawless.  Eventually.  Then we headed off to the store and got ready for the Fangs who came over to celebrate Daniel's birthday.  Prior to their arrival I took some pics of the dogs.  Here they are with glowing eyes:  the Cardinals Fang, Biggles and Jimenez:

Rufus and Ashley sleep on top on one another all the time.  It's extra adorable:

Ashley is even cute with his eyes closed:

    Or open:

Dinner was fun and we went to bed early.

  • Friday, January 18

I headed home for lunch and the new garage for the building down the street continues...

After work I headed off down Sansome.  The days are starting to get a little longer.  Finally.  So I've got a few pics from my ride after work.  This is the Pacific Stock Exchange, now the Equinox Gym:

I continued on Sansome to Market to 2nd to Howard to 11th.  This is the Jackson Brewery building at 11th and Folsom.  I think it's mixed use now.

I continued on 11th to Harrison to 25th.  This house is at 25th and Shotwell:

I continued on 25th to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey to Santa Clara to Portola to Corbett and then home.

    Bike Mileage:

  • Friday, January 18

It was a little warmer this morning but still pretty cold.  Mr. Poe has been jogging with Rufus in the morning which meant I was able to lounge in bed until 5:30.  The luxury!  I finally headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and then down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK and then took Bernice Rodgers over to JFK.  I rode through the park and came out at 8th Ave and headed through the Richmond.  Clement street has a lot of beautiful buildings, although some of them might be a little tatty:

    .

These matching buildings are on 8th Ave between Clement and California:

The house next to them isn't just yellow, it's SUPER YELLOW.

And one of me as well:

I continued on 8th to Lake to Arguello into the Presidio.  I came out of the Presidio at the Lombard Gate and took Greenwich to Laguna to Chestnut to Van Ness to North Point.  This building is called the Fontana.  I love it.  It's so great looking and stylish:

I continued on North Point to Columbus to Clay to Sansome and into work.

  • Thursday, January 17

After work I headed off Columbus to NorthPoint to Polk to Pacific to Fillmore to Sutter to Scott to Duboce to Castro to 17th and then home.

I had to take my wheel to REI where it turned out there was nothing wrong with the tire I was just pinching the tube every time I installed it.  Which is kind of embarassing for someone who rides as much as I do.  I headed home and watched Batman cartoons until Mr. Poe came home and then I went to bed.

    Bike Mileage:

  • Thursday, January 17

It was very cold again this morning!  I headed out Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and then down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and then up to Geary and the to the Palace of the Legion of Honor where the sun was shining and it was gorgeous.  Here is the sculpture I don't understand but I have to admit I'm warming up to it:

And the Palace of the Legion on Honor.  So pretty.  So symmetrical.

And one of me.  I'm getting very sick of the yellow lenses in the morning.  Not flattering:

This is the Marin Headlands with Mount Tam rising behind:

I came down Lake to Arguello to Clay to Fillmore to Post and into Japantown. It looked beautiufl as ever:

The first pic is Post Street from Post and Gough.  I took Post to Kearny and then took the second pic, Kearny from Post:

This cool little office building is at Kearny and Sutter:

I continued on Kearny to Bush to Sansome and into work.

  • Wednesday, January 16

I headed home for lunch to check on the dogs and took a few pics on the way back.  This is Castro Street from Castro and Market.  The Castro Theater sign is covered.  I hope they're working on the theater again.  It looked a little tatty when I was there for the Gay Men's Chorus on Christmas Eve:

This fabulous apartment building is at Market and Noe.  The corner retail is a check cashing place, which is a shame, because it kind of drags down the block.  I'm hoping they renovate this building soon because it's gorgeous and it could kind of use it:

This is Sansome Street from Market:

And a detail of one of the beautiful towers on Sansome Street:

After work I headed off Sutter to Divisadero to Washington to Arguello to Lake to 28th to California to 32nd to Clement to 34th to Anza to 44th to Balboa and down to the coast.  The sun was just setting and the ocean was glowing.  It was a gorgeous teal blue with against the sunset.  Loved it.  I came down the coast on the great highway and took Taravel to Merced to Hernandex to Laguna Honda to Portola to Corbett and home. Nathan came over for dinner and I went to bed at 10.  I was up late!

  • I love omgblog.  He found this Japanese pizza commercial and I love it.  It's that combination of cute, funny, and strange that I try to achieve personally but only nail the third part.
