As I was leaving the house this morning, David brought over Sofi, the worlds sweetest dog!  They're going for Christmas in Louisiana so she's staying with us so we'll have four dogs in the house until the 26th.  I'm loving it. It was very cold this morning, probably the coldest it's been.  How very fitting for the first day of winter and the shortest day of the year.  I rode out Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and then down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and took a nice pic of the Marin Headlands with Mount Tam rising behind it:

And one of me as well.  Thank god longer days will soon be here.  Yellow lenses = not flattering:

I continued up the Great Highway to Geary.  This Firehouse is at Geary and 42nd.  It's very finely detailed like all of the other brick Firehouses in San Francisco.  It was originally firhouse #47 but was changed to #34 when Fire Chief Calden changed the number one that had been closed elsewhere in the city because he wanted consecutive numbered fire departments:

I continued on Geary to 34th and then up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor and then down Camino Del Mar to Lake to Arguello to Clay to Fillmore to Post.  Check out this cute parking garage on Taylor at post.  How often do you hear the word "Cute" followed by the words "parking garage"?

Then I continued on Post to Kearny to Bush to Sansome and into work.

I headed off after work 2nd to Howard to 10th to Folsom to 25th to Valencia to Tiffany to 29th to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey to Santa Clara to Vicente and then down to the ocean. I came up the Great Highway and took Judah into Parnassus to Clayton to 17th and then home.

Certain dogs were up playing from midnight until 3 in the morning.  Which kept me up and poor Rufus as well.  So I slept in this morning and just rode down Market into work.  Over lunch I headed home.  This is the San Francisco Furniture Mart (built in 1937) :

I got home and my dogs were precious as ever.  Sweet little Ashley has taken to hanging out under the Christmas tree.  Because he's a gift:

Mimi plays with him a little but it reminds me of the way a cat plays with a bird before eating it:

    Rufus as always:  good dog.

I haven't taken pictures of the construction job down the street for a week or so.  It's progressiong, the new foundation is starting to go in:

I headed back down Market into work.

  • Wednesday, December 19

I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and then down to the coast.  I came up the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK and headed for the panhandle.  And then I got yet another flat tire.  Yes, that's four in 24 hours.  I managed to find the little piece of glass embedded in my tire and got it changed and took JFK into the Panhandle to Baker to Golden Gate to Market and then into work.  I didn't make it home over lunch, but I can report that while running out for a burrito around noon, I tripped on a curb and FLEW THROUGH AIR before slamming down on my side.  Ouch!  After work I ran home to check on the dogs and then continued Corbett to Clayton to Parnassus into Judah to the ocean and then down the Great Highway to Vicente to Santa Clara to Monterey to Genessee to Judson and into class for my final (went pretty well!) and then I went home Foerster to Teresita to Fowler to Portola to Corbett and then home.

It was pouring down rain when I woke up so I didn't go for a long ride but instead just came down Market into work.  It quit raining around lunchtime, and I headed home to check on the dogs.  It had just finished raining and the city was cool and wet and clean and beautiful:

I noticed that my rear tire was going flat.  #$&%*!!!
I made it home and decided to switch to my commuter bike which also had
a flat tire because the pavement was wet and it was better on that.  I
changed the tire on my commuter and as I was putting the wheel back on
the bike I could here that the tube had popped and was leaking air.
#$&%*!!!  I finally managed to find the deeply enbedded glass that
was causing all the fuss and I decided to head down to REI to get a new
rear tire for my carbon bike and also some new tubes.  On the way back
to work from that I stopped to check out the fire on Mission Street that had snarled traffic all day.  The building was too unstable to enter and so they were just pumping water and foam on it in hopes that it would go out..  Mission street was knee deep in foam by the time I got there:

After work I headed out Howard to 10th to Harrison to 25th to Valencia to Tiffany to San Jose to Wilder to Diamond to Monterey to Santa Clara into Vicente and then down to the ocean.  I came up the Great Highway and then rode Cabrillo to 41st to Clement to 32nd to El Camino Del Mar to Lake to Arguello to Clay to Fillmore to Post to Laguna to Market to 17th and then home.  I had noticed that now my front tire was going flat!!  I took the tire off to fix it and noticed that it was also covered in dog poop.  Yuck.  Not my best day on the bike.  Still beats driving.

I took a few pics on my way home for lunch.  This one is the Odd Fellows temple.  They are a fraternal oder that you can read more about here and here.  I couldn't quite figure out what they do but the site has lots of information.  This building sits on the site of the original Odd Fellows temple which burned in the fire after the earthquake in 1906.  It's a gorgeous building.  I'll take more pics of it later.

Here's a couple of pics of the Castro:

After work I headed off Sutter to Fillmore to Sacramento to Arguello to Lake to 31st to Clement to 32nd to Arguello to 46th to Balboa to the Great Highway and then down to Vicente to Santa Clara to Monterey to Gennessee to Judson and into class.  Which only lasted about five minutes because the final's on Wednesday.  I went home Judson to Gennessee to Monterey to Santa Clara to Vicente back down to the Great Highway and then up to Kirkham to 5th Ave to Parnassus to Clayton to 17th and then home.

  • Monday, December 17

I had trouble getting out of bed yet again but finally managed to get it together and head out on the bike.  I was heading up Corbett where I saw this little gem at Corbett and Hattie lying in the street with the needle still attached and blood in it:

WTF??  Is this the Tenderloin??  I live in Corona Heights, for God's sake, where the rich fags live.  So that had better be Botox in that hypodermic or we need more police presence.  I continued up Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and then down to the ocean and then I came up the Great Highway and went into Golden Gate Park at MLK.  I continued up to the Panhandle and then rode Baker to McAllister.  I got a few views of Civic Center on McAllister from Van Ness.  This has the new Federal Building in the background:

And this is our Beaux Arts-ilicious city hall:

And one of me as well.  Like my trade-y beard??  Shut up!  I could totally pass for rough trade so long as I neither speak nor move.

I continued on McAllister to Larkin to O'Farrell to Powell to Post to Kearny to Bush to Sansome and into work.

  • Sunday, December 16

I wasn't feeling much better when I woke up on Sunday and I manged to sleep until almost NOON.  I finally crawled out of bed and had some breakfast.  Mr. Poe had been up at like six or somthing like that and had been doing yard work and laundry and cleaning and blah blah blah and wasn't too pleased with me by the time I rolled out of bed because he's convinced it was a product of the giant comedy sized beers I'd had the night before and not lack of sleep because of the puppy and all the biking I've been doing.  I finally rolled out of bed and did a little work and hung out with the dogs.  Who were also sleepy.  Here they are napping.  Note that the baby is actually sleeping on top of Rufus.  And Rufus doesn't mind a bit:

I finally managed to get showered and we went to a party at my friend Kurt's.  Have a look at the elf outfit he wore to his party:

Now that's some glamour!  We headed home and had dinner and was back in bed by 8:30.  Lazy weekend.

  • Saturday, December 15

I'm beat!  I've been biking a lot and sweet little Ashley and his sharp little teeth have been keeping me from getting uninterrupted sleep.  I had the hardest time crawling out of bed on Saturday and I took the dogs for a walk.  We headed up the Pemberton Steps and then went to Ashbury Heights.  This is the view from Graystone Terrace and Twin Peaks looking NorthWest:

There are many beautiful homes on Ashbury Street.  Any of which would make a lovely gift:

These homes are on Buena Vista West:

We went to the store and then Mr. Chris came over with Sofi, the worlds sweetest dog and we went to the dog park.  And then I napped untill it was time to go out to dinner at my favorite restaurant, Brothers 2.  I like the Bi Bim Bop there and also the beers they serve in the big comedy sized bottles.  Here's David wondering if he's ever going to get the barbeque smell out of his jacket, Chris paying for the whole affair (Thanks kitten!) and a drunk Nathan looking for his dignity which he had lost the night before at his company Christmas party.

Then we went home and went to bed.
