Month: July 2007

  • I went home for lunch.  The weather was much improved from this morning and it was sunny and warm.  Here's a shot of Lotta's fountain looking towards the under renovation deYoung Building:

At home, Mr. Poe's garden is in full bloom.  The trumpet vines over the front of the house have pretty much taken over:

I managed to get a few pictures of adorable Rufus:

And one of him and Mimi in the same shot and nobody snarling.  Hard to believe:

Poor Mimi.  She's trying but a puppy in the house is very exhausting.  I think she'll be asleep for the rest of the day:

I got up early this morning to walk Rufus because I wanted to get in a bike ride before work.  It was warmish, foggy and damp.  Rufus had a fun walk.  He's still getting used to his diet and that's all I'm gonna say about it and trust me you don't want to know.  Jeff was adorable this morning when he blearily asked "Why are you up it's dark outside".  Poor baby.  He doesn't quite realize yet that my master plan for Rufus involves me getting up at ten to five so I can walk him and still ride before work.  Shhhh... I walked Rufus through the Castro and up 14th to Roosevelt before coming back through the dog park.  Nobody's there at 6:15 and he was wondering where all his friends were.  Then I headed home, showered, and went off on my bike.  I took Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taraval and then down to Ocean Beach.  It turned out the my shower was unnecessary because it was a wet, soggy mess from halfway up Corbett untill I was on the other side of Lone Mountain.  I took these gloomy shots at the windmill in Golden Gate Park.  At least everything is very green:

And one with America's Next Top Something:

I didn't have time to get to the Palace of the Legion of Honor so I came up Cabrillo to Arguello and then McAllister into USF.  Here are a few soggy shots of the campus.  First a sinister looking St. Ignatius:

And then a modern looking University building:

I came down Golden Gate.  Here is a modern Methodist Church that's fun to look at:

Then I continued down Golden Gate to Market and then into work. I was a soggy, dirty mess when I got there but it was totally worth it because I've really been missing my morning rides.

I'm finally getting Rufus absorbed into my daily routing.  I've been walking him in the morning, visiting him at lunch if our housekeeper isn't going to be there, and taking him to the dog park to see his friends after work.  I figured I could squeeze in a little bike ride after work so I headed out Geary to Sutter to Jackson.  I love this house in Presidio Heights on Jackson:

Then I rode around Jordan Park (which is a neighborhood not a park) a little and headed over to Golden Gate Park (which is a park).  I came out 9th avenue into the Sunset and the fog was getting pretty thick:

I continued up 9th avenue into Forest Hill (Which is a neighborhood and also a hill but not a forest) and took Pacheco where it spat me out onto Dewey

Then I took Dewey to 7th ave to Clarendon to Twin Peaks to 17th St and then home.  Rufus and I went to the dog park where he played with everybody

Isn't he cute??  And if you look closely that's sass on his face.  We went for a little walk through the Castro after the dog park because he's still getting used to big crowds of people and he had a great time.  Then home for dinner and straight to bed.

  • Here are a couple of of shots I took of a fire in the castro.  It was very dramatic but I got there at the end when all that was left was the cleanup.  As always in San Francisco, the firefighters were hot.

  • Introducing Rufus!

    Sunday, July 8

We got a new dog!  He's a Husky / Australian Shepard mix we got from Grateful Dogs Rescue and we've named him Rufus (you know I love those redneck dog names).  He was abandoned as a puppy and ended up in a rural animal control where he was going to be put down due to overcrowding but he was rescued and placed into a foster home.  He's five months old.  House trained (well he's workin on it), crate trained, neutered and chipped.  I think he's one of the best socialized rescue dogs I've ever seen.  He loves everybody and all dogs which is such a refreshing change from our other dog Mimi who I refer to as "our little Anne Coulter".  He's been going to the dog park every day and he's having so much fun.  He's just what I wanted and I can't recommend the rescue we got him from enough.  They're the greatest!
