  • Monday, September 10

I headed off after work South of Market towards the Mission.  I took Howard to 11th down towards Harrison.  This cool brick building is at Folsom and 11th.  Considering the neighborhood it's in, I think it's liquifabulous.

I headed down Harrison into the Mission.  I'm not sure where I saw this on Harrison, but it sure is cool:

This perplexing graffiti/mural is on a storefront on Precita Park.  I think I trust my name more:

I headed up Alabama up, up and over Bernal Hill and down to Cortlandt.  Then I made my way over to Holly Park and then St Mary's Park.  I crossed over 280 on the footbridge and took Cambridge over to McLaren Park.  I didn't see anything taking off at the airport, but I did see some stunning views of the city:

This is the Oakland span of the Bay Bridge:

And the ever present antenna on top of Twin Peaks:

I headed down Mansell to Persia to Ocean and then up Phelan to City College.  I got a few more pics of the cool ass sculpture in front of the Science building.  It's disco-fabulous.  I can't figure out who all the faces are above the choir but I think the lower one is Lincoln and the upper right is Dr. King:  The other two might be John F and Robeert Kennedy:

I stressed in class that I hadn't finished my homework and then went home up Teresita to Evelyn to Portola to Corbett home.  I'm loving that new drivetrain.  It's wonderful.  My husband is the awesomeist.  Total bike mileage:  35

  • Monday, September 10

It was foggy but really warm this morning and I headed off Corbett to Clayton to Frederick into Lincoln to 7th Ave and into the Park.  I headed down MLK to the ocean and then followed the Great Highway up to Geary and then up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor.  Here I an in front of it:

This is the scultpure in front of the museum.  I just don't get it.  I've photographed it from three angles in hopes that somehow that will reveal the point but it doesn't.  If I'm missing something please explain it to me:

I headed down Camino del Mar into the Presdio and then up Lincoln Blvd.  The Golden Gate Bridge looked beautiful in the morning light:

I headed down into the Marina which is really pretty in the morning before it gets too crowded:

Then I headed over Fort Mason, into Fisherman's Wharf and up Columbus into work.

  • Sunday, September 9

I could not get out of bed for the life of my on Sunday and didn't roll out of bed until 8:30.  Mr. Poe made a big breakfast for Tom and Art and then I took them to BART.  Then, Mr. Poe and I went to REI where I picked up my commuter bike which had gotten a completely new drive train for my birthday present.  It's really nice.  I got a 105 drivetrain with 10 speeds on the back.  The bike is a full pound lighter than it used to be and the braking is much crisper.  It's the nicest birthday present I've ever gotten.  When we got back Mr. Poe took a nap because his sinuses were still bothering him and I headed off on my bike.  I rode 18th to Valencia to Tiffany to San Jose to Randall to Arlington to Miguel to Richland to Murray into Saint Mary's Park.  I headed over 280 on the footbridge and then rode Cambridge up into McLaren Park.  It was still kind of cold but the sun was starting to come out:

I headed out of the park on Persia and then I rode through the Crocker Amazon neighborhood and made my way over to Alemany.  This creepy Scooby Doo house is on Alemany right over the Daly City border:

It has a lot of nice detail.  I imagine it was once a farmhouse on a much larger piece of property:

I headed over to Lake Merced where I caught some people preparing, I think, for the dragon boat festival:

I continued Skyline to Country Club to 39th to Yorba Crestlake.  The houses on Pine Lake Park I think are all from the 40's and later and are very California looking:

I continued on Crestlake to Sloat and got some pics of the water pumping station they've been restoring:

I've never seen a public utility building with this kind of detail:

Then I continued Sloat to Saint Francis to San Fernando to Portola to Corbett and then home.  I had to hurry because Rufus had a play date with Sofi,  the world's sweetest dog:

I love her so much.  Rufus loves to play with her and she never seems to run out of energy:

    They didn't sit for long.

I headed home for dinner and then walked the dogs and went to bed early.  Total bike mileage: 18.  Total mileage for the week: 184

  • Saturday, September 9

I got up early and walked Rufus but I was kind of tired so I went back to bed for an hour when I got back.  Jeff had to go to the doctor to see about his sinus infection and we had guests coming in to stay with us so I didn't go with him.  I did manage to squeeze a little bike ride in before they showed.  Sorry the pics kind of suck but I forgot my camera and took all of these on my phone.  I rode Corbett to Portola to Evelyn to Teresita to Foerster to Judson to Phelan.  City college has such a neat campus.  The Science building is bauhaus-licious.  The frieze above the entrance says "The Truth Shall Set You Free".  Good advice:

I hadn't noticed this sculpture before and it's really detailed.  I will return to take better photos of it soon:

I took Phelan to Ocean to Harold to Holloway and then headed towards the coast.  This neat house is on Holloway at Junipero Sero:

Then I rode through San Francisco state and Merced Park and then looped around Lake Merced and headed up the Great Highway.  I continued up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor and then down El Camino Del Mar into the Presidio.  I came out the Arguello gate and took Arguello to Washington to Scott to Duboce to Castro to 17th and then home.  My friends Tom and Art showed up around noon.  Tom was my tent mate at my very first AIDSRide and the two of them are the nicest guys ever.  Jeff came back from the doctor all hopped up on codeine so he elected to nap instead of going to the Asian Art Museum with us.  I love that museum.  It's lots of fun and there's tons and tons of cool stuff to look at.  This is Tom admiring the Japanese Buddhist stuff:

This is a very early Japanese funerary piece that looks like it's rockin' out.  You know, like the kids do.

This is a fabulous Korean garment that would look incredible on me.  I know what you're thinking but with low heels and simple accessories it would totally work:

Here I am next to it where you can see I was BORN TO WEAR IT:

Here's Art in front of soem Chinese stuff:

Some pretty Chinese-- I don't know what these are but they're pretty:

This is a Chinese garment.  It's so pretty and my photo turned out so crappy.  But it's incredibly detailed and would be a smart choice for work:

This is from the Indian rooms.  It's all very visibly dense.  A lot of the indian carving was of sandstone which isn't a very sturdy rock and it's kind of a miracle it's survived:

Proof that even the hindu gods were a little bootylicious:

I think this is Indian or Nepalese.  It's got the most vibrant glaze on it.  It's unbelievable:

We headed home for dinner after that.  Mr. Poe's sinuses were on the mend and he was grilling out.  We had a big dinner and went to bed early.  Total bike mileage:  18

  • Friday, September 7

I headed out during lunch to run some errands.  I had to go to Shiki in Japantown Center to get some wedding presents.  That's my very favorite place to get pretty, gifty things for people because everything is very, very nice and the ladies who run it are extremely friendly.  On the way, I got a pic of the mural on the infamous Mitchell Brother's O'Farrell Theatre.  Even the sleaziest strip bar in the Polk is a little arty in San Francisco, but the facade kind of smacks of black velvet to me:

Then I had to head down to REI to replace my biking sunglasses which I'd lost in July.  I'd been wearling my old ones since then but it's starting to get dark earlier these days and I need interchangable lenses and the old ones don't have them.  On the way back I got a few shots of the amazing new Federal Building on 7th Street.  It's incredible!

The breezeway must be a wonderful place to hang out provided that you're not afraid of heights:

After work I headed off Columbus to Fisherman's Wharf and then over Fort Mason into the Marina.  I went down Beach Street where I saw this fabulous example of deco-liciousness:

    The details are incredible!

I headed into the Presidio and out the Arguello Gate and then into Golden Gate Park and then into the Haight.  This incredible building is at Frederick and Schrader:

I took Frederick to Clayton to 17th and then home.  Total bike mileage: 30

  • Friday, September 7

I headed out on my bike this morning Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel and then down towards the ocean.  The days are definitely starting to get shorter.  I got a shot of the rising sun a little before 7 this morning.  It was still a little red because of the smoke from the fire near Sacramento:

I headed up the Great Highway and then into Golden Gate Park.  I headed out of the park at Spreckels Lake and rode 36th to Clement and then dpwn Clement and up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor.  I headed down into Seacliff and got this shot of St. Ignatius in the distance:

This is me with Seacliff in the background:

And a pretty house in Seacliff I hadn't noticed before:

I rode down Lake to Arguello.  I got this pic of the courtyard at the Synagogue on Arguello while waiting in line for the light:

Then I rode Arguello to Clay.  This beautiful building is at Clay and Scott (I think)

The corner bay is really heavily detailed:

Then I went Fillmore to Post and into work.

  • Thursday, September 6

I headed off after work Sutter to Fillmore to Clay.  This fantastic piece of Victorian architecture porn is at Clay and Baker:

I headed down Baker to Sacramento and took these shots of the Presidio Library:  It's a little run down given how high end everything around it is:

I continued up Sacramento and took these pics of Laurel at Sacramento.  I'm lovin' the symmetry:

Then I went Sacramento to Arguello to Lake and into Mountain Lake Park which looked beautiful in the afternoon sun:

Then I continued up Lake to Camino del Mar and then took 34th to Cabrillo to Funston and then into Golden Gate Park.  I stopped in front of the de Young Museum for this pic:

I came out of the Music Councourse onto MLK and then over to Kezar Stadium:

Then I went Frederick to Clayton to 17th St and home.  I got Rufus and we went to the dog park where he played with an adorable puppy.  The highlight was when she snatched a chewy treat right out of his mouth and started running around with it.  The nerve!

We went home and had dinner and then I walked both of the dogs, picked
Mr. Poe up at class, and then went to bed.  Total bike mileage: 30

  • Thursday, September 6

It was warm again this morning!  I walked Rufus and got ready and headed out Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Taravel to 14th Ave and then over to Vicente to look at Saint Cecilia's.   It wasn't so much foggy as it was hazy from smoke blown down from a fire up in Sacramento and the building looked spectacular as always:

And a few close ups of the tower:

I headed down Vicente to ocean beach and then up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor.  I came back on Lake where I noticed that the smoke had made the sun bright red.  I could feel my super powers fading!

I continued down Lake and then took Arguello to California to Palm and into Jordan Park.  I love all the houses there.  Many of them are fabulous rambling:

A view down Palm Street with Twin Peaks in the background:

I took Euclid to Predidio to Post and into Japantown.  This cool building in Japantown at Webster and Post never photographs the way I want it to but it's so cool looking in person:

And a close up tinted Red from the sun:

Then I continued on Post into the Financial District and went to work.

  • Wednesday, September 5

I headed out Sutter to Eucalyptus after work and took rode around Jordan Park a alittle.  There are a bunch of really big houses in that neighborhood that date from 1915ish or so.  This one is particularly fabulous:

Then  I headed over to the Rose Garden to see what was the hot day in San Francisco had brought us.  I wasn't disappointed:

And a view of the garden:

I rode out to ocean beach where a heavy surf had resulted in surfers.  Surfers are not easy to photograph and I've noticed that they seem to spend most of their time floating in the water rather than riding the waves but I managed to photograph one although you have to squint a little to see it:

    And me at the coast:

I headed down around Lake Merced and then up Font into Park Merced.  It's a pretty neighborhood when the sun is shining (which is rarely) but the buildings are a little crappy although they seem to be working on them:

I headed over on Holloway into Ingleside Terraces and managed to get a pretty view of Golden Gate Heights to the north:

Then I went to class.  The real find of the day was when class was over.  The Diego Rivera Theatre was open and I was able to photograph the mural in its atrium. It's spectactular and enormous.  I don't think you can get enough of it in one photo to give an impression of the scale.  And the colors are so incredibly vibrant.  I didn't have enough time to really have a look at it and I can't wait to go back because it's just breathtaking:

    Total bike mileage: 38

  • Wednesday, September 5

It wasn't foggy at all when I got up which was totally surprising since it was such a mess on Tuesday.  I walked Rufus and got ready and headed out Corbett to Clayton to Frederick.  I got a couple of pics of these cool buildings on Frederick across from Kezar Stadium.  I'm not sure what they are but they're very very cool:

The second one is almost identical but just a little larger:

I headed into the park and got this great shot of the de Young in the early morning light:

I went down through the park to Ocean Beach and then headed up towards Geary.  Adorable dogs were playing on the beach:

And presumably mouthwatering surfers in the water:

If you look really closely you can see one of them wiping out in the wave:

    The view down the beach:

And look how happy I am that it isn't foggy!

I headed up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor and then down into the Presidio.  I rode along Crissy Field and then into the Palace of Fine Arts which looked spectacular as always:

I think this is a swan.  She was all like "You asshole papparazzi why don't you leave me alone??  I'm just trying to live a normal life!"

I headed down Beach to photograph yet another of the Maya revival buildings from the 20's and 30's that are littered around the city:

Then I rode over Fort Mason then Embarcadero to Battery and into work.
